A profound and groundbreaking analysis: Gossip Blogs Edition

(Doesn't "Edition" make it sound like i've posted before and know what i'm talking about?, yes it does)

I saw that Brooke Hogan video ( It was posted here too recently) posted up at perezhilton.com a few days ago and after my initial outrage wore off I decided to take a look at the comments posted about it there. Normally the comments on that sight are pretty hate-filled, vapid and ridiculous (not to mention misogynistic) so I was pretty happy to see that every one of the commenters there were utterly disgusted with Brooke's sexist statements and thought she was a complete moron...., and, of course, a ..."cunt". It was so weird how the majority of the comments there were condemning Brooke's ignorant sexism while peppered with insults aimed at her of the "whore" "bitch" and skankmuffin variety. I find the sentence "way to set the women's movement back fifty years, cunt." kind of ironic. And i'm pretty sure it wasn't being used in the let's-take-back-the-word sort of way.

As for why I was on perezhilton.com in the first place.... MY FINGERS SLIPPED I SWEAR.

What do you expect for Perez readers when Perez himself so often makes sexist and misogynist comments about women? I'm a gossip junkie, myself, but I quit PH because of his constant negative comments (and his obvious favoritism of whichever celeb he's hanging out with at the moment) about women and pretty much any queerfolk who want to have a private life.

Gossip blogs are a festering den of sexism. Hence why I hardly ever read them. Never read Perez Hilton...but Yeeeeah is just as bad.

The thing with Brooke Hogan is that at this point in her life, I don't know that she's mature enough to be held accountable for her utterings. I mean yes, most 20 year olds are, but I don't know that she is. And I don't say that as a means to insult her either. But the girl is a product of her upbringing. Have you ever looked at the "Hogan Knows Best" shows? She was taught that sexist rhetoric from the womb. She has been raised as a princess and that she and other women are less than and to be protected and fawned over, not to be put into positions of power as Hilary Clinton. Who can expect that she'd have anything else to say?

Now, give the girl a few years out on her own out from under her patriarchal parents, and if she doesn't wise up, then I'd blame her for not shaking off the sexism she was brewed in and realizing her full potential and the potential and equality of all women.

I just think it's too soon, she hasn't broken away yet and is still just a mouth piece for her parent's man=god indoctrination.

okay, I lol'd at skankmuffin.

I visit some of the gossip sites on the regular. The amusement levels outweigh the straightup stupidity. The key is not to get sucked in because they have some of the most asinine bigoted comments/arguments ever.

Oh my goodness! I'm stoked that I stumbled upon this discussion! I just watched the episode like 2 days ago and was mortified. Quite by chance. It was the only episode I'd ever watched and I wish I hadn't. I mean I can't stand misogynistic men, but I REALLY can't stand misogynistic women. Anybody can fall victim to the brainwashing and it's heartbreaking that we're expected to fail from the very beginning. She was raised to believe that she is incompetent and therefore should not have any responsibilities. This was very insulting and just perpetuates the lies. I mean, I think her friend was even shocked.
