Hey, folks. This video's from a while back, but it still off-the-charts bizarre (and sexist): What the fuck are images of women in cages doing in Beyonce's music video for "Get Me Bodied"?
I'm confused. The whole video seems to showcase a classy, brassy-voiced B, with her sleek hair and bright red lips. And then, flickering only for a few seconds in this grainy, documentary-type sort of a way, are these images of women in cages. (Woman? I guess it's only one woman.) Slithering around in lingerie?
What, it's like the vid was too high on empowerment, so the producers had to toss in some stock footage of oppressed women in between scenes, in some sort of subconscious effort to not get people freaking out about the uppity wimmins? Otherwise, I'm seriously just left what-the-fucking.

ugh... there's so many clubs that let women go up and dance in cages half naked also...i really don't get why it's so prevalent and even more so, why women agree to it
K... that wasn't stock footage, there was a cage with a gal painted silver. I do find it interesting that that was the only thing you have a problem with in that video.
Well. I'm pretty sure it was intended to be a comment on NOT being independent -- like, this is not where you want to be, in a cage. The woman in a cage is metaphor.
It is interesting how short this cage shot is in the video. I am sure if they really wanted to make an impact in this video they would of shown the women in the cage for a longer period of time.
We should email Beyonce and ask "why the cage girl?" Whats up with that?!
It always did depress me that Beyonce went from 'All the women, independent' to 'There some soldiers in here who wanna take care of me?'
