As I was doing my nightly blog crawl, I ran across an article on the shooting at the Unitarian Church in California. When I saw it, I froze. The hatred of liberals that caused that man to shoot the people in that church is the same hate my father has in his heart for Liberals, and is from the same source.

In my house, the 'liberal movement' is on par with the most vile of things in the world. It is the greatest enemy of the world, and my father- and his glorious talking-head pundits on the radio, are the only one's that are correct. On my 19th birthday, the first time I had seen him and my mother since I moved into college, he loudly proclaimed that "When the revolution comes there won't be enough rope to hang the liberals with". That's right.

An apocalyptic proclamation from a neo-conservative. That's why, when I read the rantings of that man, I felt a tinge of fear. My father and that man are not the only people in this country that believe in that hateful speech. That is proven by the book sales and radio ratings of hate-speech peddlers like Rush, and (especially) Michael Savage.

Once you start talking approvingly about revolution, you are no longer a conservative.

When the Revolution comes the Right Wingers are going to be shocked to find out that their general complacency and small numbers are going to leave them in a bad position to begin with. Besides they are so against any implication of "Socialism" they generally refuse to work together. Cooperativists are going to run them into the ocean.

HAHA. That is true Logrus. But he seems to think that the sheer number of gun-toting hillbillies will over run the poor yoga-doing liberals.

That's the great thing about FOX. These morons are convinced that all pinko libs "hate/fear" guns. They are going to be unpleasantly shocked when they realize, finally, that "Faux Noose" really has been lying to their dumb asses.

Its not just Faux News- its the talking heads on the radio too. I remember when my Dad first started listening to Michael Savage. We thought he was NUTS. But my Dad loved his over the top rhetoric.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Logrus said:

That's because people like your dad, and mine too, are prejudiced homophobic racists who know that it's shitty but won't change; and they come from a generation which had true reverence for journalism and the integrity of that media was sacrosanct. So along comes Savage, Limbaugh, O'Reiley, saying the same racist shit these guys believe and because it's a "news" program those racist/phobic sentiments are validated and they can stop feeling like shitheels for having them.

Right wing philosophy is tied to fundamental christianity for a very good reason: Neither belief will hold up under the scrutiny of logic or fact. This is also why the followers of those faiths will react with anger to calm and rational questioning, because you are not challenging fact you are challenging faith.

Everything breaks down in to "good/evil" paradigms for these people. If you're not a crazed xenophobic right-wing xtian, or a Jew in Israel (not a Jew in Hollywood, them's the bad joos) then you must be a faggot communist anarchist (don't bother trying to explain how communism is pretty antithetical to anarchism and that anarchism is really voluntary democracy which is really similar to libertarianism as it was conceived because they lack the intellectual depth to follow your point) or even ask them if they have ever heard of "log cabin Republicans".

There is a whole generation of these people who sold out or faked out the values they seemed to profess in the 1960's-70's that I just can't wait for them to die. Everyone is a socialist, but the damn government needs to bail them out of their APR mortgages and increase social security.

Yes, I hate them all.

My father doesn't believe in Social Security or mortgage help- he feels that the "illegals and commies" are lazy and want his money.
He also has a whole slew of issues with women that made me a feminist. He blames public schools for my liberalism.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Logrus said:

lemur: He's probably right about public schools. there are still a few good ones out there.

And I love the "illegals" rhetoric. None of these jerkbags can get it through their heads that the Northward migration is a direct result of North American agri-corp expansion into Latin American land which used to house and feed local small scale farmers. People get displaced in Guatemala/El Salvador/wherever, they go North and work cheaper than the locals there, the locals there move north and work cheaper than the locals here, etc.

Meanwhile nobody wants to pay 8 bux a pound for chicken or 4 bux for lettuce. We encourage our own corporate expansion into other countries then bitch about the inevitable outcome.

Logrus: I won't deny that my Democrat "mentors" were my teachers, but to place the blame solely on my school, and then to say it teaches us nothing drives me insane. ESPECIALLY when I can discuss history with him.
He seems to think that the American Economy is in a bubble- and that American's would gladly do work for peanuts and still be able to keep prices down, when that isn't true.

What is it with that generation that creates such crazies?

Okay. Neo-cons are one thing. But this guy is just a whole 'nother level of CRAZY. Even neo-cons don't condone going in and killing a bunch of people in a church (or a bunch of people, period). Honestly I think this guy was off his rocker and while your dad may have some scary views, I doubt he will go into a church, guns blazing, any time soon.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page lemur said:

Marilove: I don't think my father will, but the fact that the crazy guy spouted the same insane dribble scares me. The influence of conservative pundits is real, and with nut-jobs like Savage on the air(who is a true wacko. He basically rants on air and sounds insane)this man is not alone in his views.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Logrus said:

lemur: Oh I was just taking your father's "blame" and changing it to "credit".

Like my father "blames" me for my daughter being queer, while I give myself "credit" for making sure she is comfortable with being out.

It's funny how education gets "blamed" for making people "liberal", isn't it. As Colbert says "Facts have a liberal bias!". Yes, they do.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page lemur said:

Logrus: My father doesn't credit anyone- he blames. Think Twisty from I-Blame-The-Patriarchy's arch-nemesis.
I do love how educated people are more liberal, and it makes sense. Educated people are less susceptible to propaganda because an education teaches you to question things.

There is a lot of hatred against conservatives too - I can't count the amount of hate mail and even a few death threats I've received over email because I went to a liberal website and posted my opinions. I had to switch email acounts because of it.

I'm homeschooled. I prefer it that way.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page lemur said:

Molly- There are crazies in every political party. That is true. But what I am talking about is the spread of uninformed conspiracy theories that are insane and reek of uncontrolled bias.
As for preferring to be homeschooled, that's fine. But part of an education is being exposed to ideas that are different than your parents. Homeschooling leaves you with only the input of your parents.

I'm pretty sure my parents regret sending me to a liberal Northeastern university, as I turned out to be a commie feminist heathen (and they are conservative Christian Repubs).
I think they blame my boyfriend of five years for "making" me an atheist; he's a scientist who's also an atheist.
The shit spewed by the likes of Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc. is an incitement to violence. What happened at the UU church was bound to happen as a result of their popular anti-liberal rants.

Wow, good story Molly. I don't believe it for a second, but keep trolling the site!

A Unitarian church was recently shot up in Knoxville, TN also. They haven't found the man's motive yet, but it makes me so upset that liberal churches that support desegregation, women's and gay rights are being attacked. We need their voice of reason and compassion, especially in this part of the country. This one hits close to home for me also, I go to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Kam- I realized my mistake after I hit the submit button and can't fix it. That'll teach me to not have 2 windows open at once, huh?

SarahMC- I think little Molly was banned,oh well.

Mmmm-hmm. I've heard this same crap at my house. Just about a month ago my mom was talking about how if Obama gets elected there's going to be another civil war in this country: conservatives versus liberals, and that it's important for conservatives to have guns (my dad just bought a gun for himself and another for my not-exactly-conservative sister, but that's a whole nother story) so that when the war comes they'll be able to fight "before Obama takes their guns away."
I just wanted to scream: "you know we'll be on different sides in this 'war,' right? You know you'd have to kill your own daughter (or condone someone else killing me) to win?"
And the thing is, I can't even counter it with, "can't we all just get along?" because to her, 'getting along' means me going along with whatever she says. And that would psychologically torture me. I'm a liberal, progressive, feminist, LGBT-rights-supporting Obama supporter. And she worships at the alter of Rush Limbaugh and calls me close-minded.

Genevieve- Wow, opposite gender same parent. Scary isn't it? I've actually taken to just letting the comments drop, having an uncomfortable silence, and then changing the topic. It works pretty well. I will be damned if I let that bigot bait me.

Lemur--I don't feel baited as much as threatened. It's not like she's saying, "come on, let's argue!" as much as she's saying, "you might think you're good now with your Obama nomination and your legalization of gay marriage in California, but just you wait..."

And on top of that I have to hear Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham's hate speeches every day.
