Misogyny & Obama
Am I the only one pissed-off that Obama had his "good friend" Bernie Mac open an Obama fundraiser with "jokes" about whoring out his female relatives- you know, the women he calls "hos". ???

I was on a cruise in 2005 to the Caribbean and they had a featured comic one night. The room was packed, probably 1000 people. The guy comes on and does a some jokes, and is getting a good reaction. Then he starts into a routine with a bunch of misogynistic jokes, where the punchline is about putting down women.
NO ONE LAUGHED.
At one point it became so awkward that the comedian said it was a tough crowd and one guy sitting in the corner acted like he laughing ostentatiously. I still don't know whether that guy was for real or not.
At the end of the cruise there was a suggestion box and I left a note saying I didn't find the misogynistic jokes to be enjoyable at all. I can't imagine I was alone.
That was three years ago. And yet this shit is still going on. Why??
Btw, this was Princess Cruises, in case anyone is curious.
nope, you're not the only one.
Who books openers? Obama, his staff? Does he get a lot of in-put? I'm not jumping to his defense, I just always wonder how close these things are to the name they get associated with.
It makes me furious, too, but I don't think it's Obama's fault. I doubt Bernie Mac submitted his jokes for approval beforehand. But just like with Jeremiah Wright, if Obama then chooses not to condemn or dissociate himself from the comment/person, he assumes responsibility. He should have been a little more firm about it, rather than playing it off as a friendly rebuke, I think.
Speaking of, am I the only one who still wonders why the focus of the controversy about Don Imus's "nappy-headed hos" comment wasn't equally distributed across the "nappy-headed" and the "hos" term? To me, it seemed that people were more angry about the former and that the latter was barely on the radar.
