Quick Hit: Iraqi Women Resist Invasive Security Procedure

Go read Fatemeh at Feministe's post about a controversial security measure taken in the Green Zone of Baghdad.

And if I could, I would categorize this post not just under Analysis, but also under Harassment, International, Iraq War, Politics, Religion, and Women of Color. Anyone else wish that we could file posts under multiple topics?

Women Muslims are not allowed to be touched by men, pretty much at all. The Iraqi Police Force and Coalition Forces also lack sufficient number to do quick searches.

Those that want to hurt or kill our forces are more than willing to find women who will explode themselves so they can kill Coalition Forces (and not care about innocent by-standers). They have had a few news articles about this phenomenon. You could also watch The Battle Of Algiers.

Also, the blogger was mad because she did not like the use of the word matron. I think that may have been her own problem. I considered my passed grandmother to be a matron, and she kept three generations in line. I felt like she brought her own definitions and slandered the original author for it.

This is a situation where ideals meets reality. The reality is without some effective method of searching Islamic women someone I knew or went to boot camp with might come home in a bag.

You should be more pissed that people take emotionally vulnerable women and make them explode themselves. That is getting closer to the root cause of the problem.
