Russian Judge Rules That Sexual Harassment is Necessary for the Human Race to Continue

This is so disturbing. A Russian Judge said that if there wasn't sexual harassment, there wouldn't be babies. The stats included are horrendously frightening. 100 percent of women surveyed said they had been sexually harassed.

You can read the story here.

The statistic in the article that scares me the most is that it is not only this case that failed to produce recognition of workplace harassment, but that only TWO cases have ever been successful.

This case is absolutely shocking. I seriously can't even logically follow the "argument" the judge is putting forth. But the fact that it isn't just this one judge. That it isn't just some clearly wacked out individual who has archaic views about harassment, heterosexuality, and the need to increased the population makes it even worse to me.

It's not an outlier. This is literally the rule, rather than the exception.

Let's talk negative population growth for a second, because this story is connected.

Now, Russian women have been responding rationally to a piss-poor socio-economic situation by emigrating and having fewer babies.

So Putin is paying women to have babies in an effort to increase the birth rate. Yeah, uh instead of actually dealing with sexism and discrimination and improving women's economic freedom.

Meanwhile, Western European countries are overflowing with Eastern women fleeing bullshit such as what is described in the article. Guess one of the areas of labor these women are over-represented?

I'd like to point out the irony of the government paying women essentially to have reproductive sex (i.e. motherhood) when so many women leaving Russia, at least at some point in their journey, wind up being paid for non-reproductive sex (e.g. sex-work, prostitution, etc).

Great points, spike the cat.

I'd also like to point out that it's not just women who are encouraged to have babies in Russia. Apparently this extends to "teenagers" as well. While obviously some teens could be called women, I think it's a distinction that should be made here. I'm posting a story about this below.

WARNING: I apologize in advance for the annoying, biased "anti-commie" rhetoric in this article. It's not the most amazing article in the world, but it is the only one I could find that discusses the teen pregnancy camp thing.
