One of the many men running for Congress in New York’s 21st congressional district issued a press release regarding the only female candidate’s new mail piece. Joe/John/JP Sullivan is ticked off at Tracey Brooks who had the audacity to infer that male politicians won’t get anything done for the constituents she’d like to represent. Albany’s Times-Union has "that chick's" mail piece and Sullivan’s press release here.
I'm not really sure what Sullivan's overall goal is with this press release, aside from looking silly. Brooks is definitely a contender in this race, with a lot of money and access to advertising that Sullivan has shunned. He hasn’t raised enough money to file with the FEC and his petition for candidacy came up a little short. It’s important to note that Phil Steck, Paul Tonko and Brooks can be referred to as the “front runners” of this race. If you want see a candidate with a “platform of substance” just visit his website .
I personally don’t see the sexism that Sullivan sees. I think it’s refreshing to see Brooks say “I stand out because of my gender and I’ll stand out as your Representative” instead of downplaying the fact that she’s a woman... and she wears pants.
