Call for "beauty-disadvantage women" in Australia

How the hell did this guy ever get voted into office? A mayor of a remote Australian mining town has put out a call for "beauty-disadvantaged women" to head to his municipality, as men outnumber women approximately 5-to-1 and apparently are less concerned about attracting model-perfect women as wives and girlfriends. Read the original article here.

The mayor, John Molony, has refused to apologise for his comments and insists he "respects women." I doubt whether many women will have respect for him after this, however.

Q: How the hell did this guy ever get voted into office?

A: Five men for every one woman.

I don't deny the lack of tact, but are we saying that people who are unattractive don't exist any more? I know it's impolite to point at someone and say "That person is an example of homely", but as there is such a thing as physically unattractive people (men and women, but I get the idea that the town has plenty of the male variety so it would be counterproductive to invite ugly people to move there) and people, for whatever reason, often want to get married advertising a glut of men whom otherwise might be considered unavailable to unattractive women is doing a disservice to whom exactly?

Me? Oh, I'm fricking gorgeous. But if you hear of a town where the women out number the men 5/1 drop me an email.
