Last (Female) Comic Standing

Dear Iliza Shlesinger:

Thank you for having the presence of mind in your moment of triumph to say, "it's not about being a girl, it's about being a funny comic," when asked on national television what it felt like to be a female in comedy. Thank you for looking appropriately shocked that THAT would be the question you were asked when you won. I was not the only one who was blown away by that question and I stood up and shouted at the screen "Why didn't you just ask Marc what it was like to lose to a girl, you fuckers!" You won every challenge, every time, you laughed gracefully when that stupid plastic dog made jokes about your boobs while it merely commented on the other contestants talent, and you nailed the "non-specific native armband tattoo" joke to the wall.

Thank you Iliza, for being a hilarious, non-gender specific, comedian.

Word. I have a total crush on Iliza. She is a great performer, and always brought fresh and funny material to each challenge (unlike some of her competitors, who repeated the same joke from audition to challenge, over and over again).

She was, in my opinion the strongest contestant (even though I loved Jim Tavare as well). Way to go, Iliza!

I believe it was Jerry Lewis who said "Women can't be funny."

And I know it was me who responded: "Fuck you, you hack. You built a career on a bad impersonation of a retarded spastic and the French only find you funny because the Germans claimed Hasslehoff."

She is amazing. I am a part of the improv comedy troupe at my school and I've gotten lots of comments like "wow, I didn't expect you to be so funny" (since you're a girl). Or "you're as funny as the guys!" (with surprise). It's frustrating to say the least. WOMEN ARE FUNNY. FEMINISTS HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR.

Thanks for the post. I enjoyed it!

I actually met her this summer during a comedy festival I volunteer at and she's as nice as she is funny. She wasn't allowed to tell if she won or not, so I had to keep watching (all the filming was finished by then I believe). Wish I could have said congratulations in person!
