Lifetime's Fallen Angels Week

Apparently this is the Lifetime Television Network's "Fallen Angels Week". While they are advertising for this, they show clips from various movies and televsion shows. All of their "fallen angels" are drug users, pregnant girls, girls who got married really young, etc.

What really irks me are the little clips they show from the show "Reba".

I think if Lifetime wants to stick to their definition of a "fallen angel", they should be showing the character Cheyenne. Pregnant at seventeen, married at seventeen. She fits in with the girls in the other clips just fine and dandy. But no, they show Kyra, the middle child.

If anyone watches "Reba", you'll know that Kyra is incredibly smart, funny, and goal-oriented. She doesn't take shit from anyone, she's gloriously sarcastic, and seriously insightful.

No, Cheyenne can't be a "fallen angel" because she's a perfect blonde mom, taking her time to take care of her daughter and her husband. Of course Kyra is the "fallen angel" because she's the sassy, black wearing, rebellious one.

What makes me so mad is that it's almost as if Lifetime is saying to be bad-ass and smart, you're taking a wrong turn. If you're a drug user, or pregnant, or even sarcastic and wear a lot of black like Kyra, you're a "fallen angel". Right, because black eyeliner and a child automatically means you're a bad person.

I'm not saying pregnancy or drugs are a good thing or a bad thing. I just really hate it when women are judged because of them.

And damnit, what's with the whole "angel" thing in the first place? It's like "good girls gone bad." What constitutes a "good girl" in the first place?

Oh right, Cheyenne.
