Mad Cow disease, or why i hate commercials for hamburgers

I know that fast food companies like Burger King and Carl's Jr. dont have a great history with the feminist community ( I think we can all remember the one I'll just call "in which paris hilton gyrates on a soapy car wilst eating a burger"...*takes two tylenol*) , but i just saw a commercial that really takes the cake.

It was an ad put out by Burger King in which a man is sitting in his car at night and eating a burger.  All of a sudden a big angry cow comes charging at the car.  The man turns around and screams in fear "I never said we were exclusive!!!"
Get it??  Cuz what is a woman scorned but a big angry cow?  oh, and he was cheating on his angry cow with a hunk of ground meat.  nice.

I kind of get it, but I don't think that this is an explicitly sexist ad but instead it is playing on an accepted paradigm and the notions of traditional "fidelity" being extended into non-traditional areas.

I've seen this same concept played out in other commercials for things like beer and I think either cars or gasoline (some care related product). I've also seen it used with a woman as the "cheating" party used to sell ice-cream or something (I think the product being associated with a woman was far more sexist that the concept of cheating on the product).

Also, FWIW, beef comes from bullocks (young male cattle) and older retired dairy cows in about equal proportions.

Another thing FWIW, the ads are selling a chicken sandwich from what I picked up on it the other day,so they are attempting to make the joke that he's cheating on beef with chicken. Still, it's a really stupid kind of ad campaign.

I always hated the one (I think it might've been BK as well?) that was all 'men need MEAT' and had some guy making some big speech about how real men have real hunger and need MEAT to fill it, or something like that... like real men don't eat vegetables or something. Laaame

i just saw a "hungry man" commercial online, and they are still as offensive to me as they were back in the 80's. they're still clinging to that "real men eat meat, and LOTS of it!" mentality. it was two guys eating a quiche, and they got blown away by a breeze, while the fat ass eating a pound of crappy meat stayed seated. yep.
