Barelypolitical.com launched in June 07 with the video "I have a crush on... Obama" ...which was recently named a 2007 video of the year by YouTube, AOL, Newsweek, People Magazine, the AP, Adrants, Nerve.com and a couple other places. It has since come out with many more political comedy videos including other characters such as Guilianigirl and McCaingirl.
When I saw this on E! i had to wonder if Obama really needs this kind of publicity. With girls who have an "ideal body image" jumping around making fun of the candidates. I know its supposed to be political satire but I don't feel right laughing at this.
How does anyone else feel about this?

This is a case where the advertising does not have anything to do with the product. It's doing what all advertising does now, selling cachet by association. "Sexy people like Obama, so if you like Obama you'll be sexy too!" It's about people who like the Senator, rather than the Senator.
And I don't dislike the advertising, I just don't feel effected by it. But it's not designed for my demographic, just like commercials with "rap" jingles selling corn chips don't really captivate me. That's why nobody goes with just one kind of advertising.
Here is what I ask myself when this kind of issue comes up: Would I be supportive of a person (male or female) who was not traditionally "beautiful" (like heavy, or whatever) would I be supporting of them? Yeah, I would. So I support people who are traditionally attractive to flaunt it too.
I have to admit I was shocked when he nominated Palin. All of my differences with her politics, aside I have to be honest and say that I was impressed by her spunk. But all the spunk in the world cant make me gamble with the future of reproductive rights for my daughter. She is only 8 but in 8 years that wont be the case. Do I want my future 16 yo to have to make such decisions of course not. But I want her to have access to safe medical care and contraception if needed.
Let's face it, a Governor from Alaska? She was mayor of a city of 9,000 people and is now Governor of a state that couldn't be more remote and foreign to most of us than if it were a foreign country. Total population of Alaska is less than 700,000. Can she relate to the average American? How will she fare with American women of color, or women who are working class, or women who are from urban environments?
My daughter observed that one day even she could be President. It is obvious that both Hillary and Obama have provided her with these shining examples. Yes, even Palin is reliving the history made by Ferraro. But she is not the one we are waiting for!
