Apparently, feminists are "sneeringly condescending to any woman who doesn't agree with them." WTF!?

Get ready to be pissed off. This is an e-mail I recieved from a former co-worker about Palin. (For any who remember, this is the same guy who sent me the "surviving feminism" e-mail I wrote about in a former post .

To quote NOW's press release entitled "Not Every Woman Supports Women’s Rights":

The fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly No.

So, the fact that Governor Palin is living equal rights doesn’t count. She has her own career. She demonstrated her right to choose and chose to keep her children and chose to birth them even after finding out one child wasn’t “perfect.” (emphasis mine) She’s not a eugenicist as so many Lefties are proving themselves to be. Gay people take note. You’re next. But see, she made the WRONG choice and therefore she is not deserving of NOW’s endorsement.

The only issue that matters for NOW is abortion. It’s the litmus test. A woman doesn’t matter. She has to be right sort of woman - one who believes abortion is the only way.

You realize, of course, that if anyone wants to talk about condescension towards women, you can’t even begin to have that discussion without mentioning modern day feminism. The majority of modern feminists (not necessarily you) are sneeringly condescending to any woman who doesn’t agree with them. This NOW press release is dripping with condescension. (emphasis mine) It’s as if women can’t understand for themselves what they want. Thank God feminism came along to educate ignorant women who can’t understand how important it is to be able to have an abortion! So you’re pro-life? It’s OK, honey, you just don’t know any better yet. Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what to think, because you clearly can’t decide for yourself.

Governor Palin made her own decisions, which conflict with the feminist agenda. Heaven forbid that she should think for herself and come to the conclusion that she doesn't agree with NOW on a variety of points. I mean, the only way such a thing could ever come to pass is if she were brainwashed by the Republican gestapo, right?

Sheesh . . . .

Oy Vey.

Um. Wow. Not only is this email full of condescension, but it's also a bit too rant-y for any adult, no? Where in the heck do you work and why does this person keep bothering you?!

Not only should you point out the difference between pro-life and anti-abortion, but you should also note the other parts of Palin's record people have a problem with: teaching creationism, being against gay marriage, etc.

Also: She’s not a eugenicist as so many Lefties are proving themselves to be. Gay people take note. You’re next.

WHAT?! What does that even mean?!

Basically, he is calling feminists fascists.

Here's what wikipedia has to say about eugenics:
"Eugenics is a social philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention...Earlier proposed means of achieving these goals focused on selective breeding, while modern ones focus on prenatal testing and screening, genetic counseling, birth control, in vitro fertilization, and genetic engineering...Eugenics was also used to rationalize certain aspects of the Holocaust."

That pisses me off. Tremendously.

(Most of this is pretty obvious, but I just have to say it anyway...)
Palin may be "living equal rights" (excellent grammar, by the way), yet she doesn't believe that other women should have those rights, like equal pay for equal work. A woman having her own career doesn't mean shit if she's not being properly compensated for it. Duh. When has she ever said that women shouldn't work? Uh, never, so that's not our problem with her.
And yes, she did choose to keep her baby, yet, as so many of us have already pointed out, she was allowed to choose and wants to take away that choice for other women by forcing them to bring their babies to term.
Also, as most of us already know, pro-choice does NOT mean pro-abortion.

Tell this former co-worker to put that in his pipe and smoke it.

Ugh. I remember your last post about this guy. Doesn't he have any work to do?

I hate when people think that letting one woman break the glass ceiling will automatically empower all women, regardless of her politics. Being a woman does not make you pro-woman. Grrr.

Uhm, show me evidence she knew the last baby had Downs before he was born, and then they can be all holier-than-thou about it.

Gah. All of this is just infuriating.

@Luna:

I assume that because she's over 40, she would have had an amnio (I really don't know if I'm spelling that correctly; sorry if I'm not), or perhaps the baby's head appeared to be "big" in an ultrasound. Either of those could indicate a baby with Down's, although I haven't actually heard that she had an amnio (even if it was just to prepare herself for any "imperfections" her baby might be afflicted with) or was aware of the child's "disability." I'm just speculating, though, and I guess sort of playing Devil's advocate.

I see nothing wrong with the NOW quote. NOWs press release IS correct as Palin DOESNT speak for women. I think you completely took the quote out of context. The only way I think you couldve gooten this distortion is if youre anti-choice.

I know what eugenics are, but what on earth does that have to do with feminists and "gay people." The logic there (what's left of it) is really bizarre, to say the least!

Oops! I was responding to NOWs quote, not his shitty email. The dude is a shit-bag full of crap that puts employees under an ackward situation and possibly fear, due to the realitys of work politics. The privilege that made him write this shit-pile should be pulled out from under him and every dip-hag (I made that one up),that wants to do th same thing ought to be kept from working. Once again, I think the guy that wrote that is a lard-bag.

THIS is why I felt so tired when I heard about McCain's choice.

The hours of our lives that we have to spend explaining the situation patiently to people like this. here is my response to your co-worker, and you may forward this to him.

I'd like to ask you this: "would you support any man?" How is this different? How about this case: If your priority for example was having access to education, and there was a university professor running for president who was against education for everyone, would you vote for that person?

Feminist activists are not here to root for a woman politician, although they are happy to see more women in politics. The job of feminist activists is to look after and emphasize the interests of women, rather than a specific politician. So they are doing what they should be doing. They supported Hillary because her policies benefited more women, and they will not support Palin because SHE does not support women.

You will see feminists speak out against sexism that the media will perpetuate against Palin (just like they did with hillary and michelle obama) because that sexism hurts and puts down all women. but it's not because palin is going to help women.

Totally. Expecting me to prefer Palin just because I'm feminist is like expecting me to prefer Romeny (and wish he'd won the Republican presidential or vice presidential nomination) just because I like Massachusetts and want the state to be well off.

Actually, it was a blog post, not an e-mail directed at our mutual friend here. If she can't even get that detail straight, what else do you suppose she would be willing to fabricate to make a point?

Anyway, I'm done with blogging, and most forums. A mere squirrel has shown me the error of my ways. I pray that you, too, learn to obey the Lord and Master!
