Being a woman does not make me a McCain/Palin Supporter

Okay so this is a short but sweet rant and I'm sorry if it is becoming more and more unoriginal, but I figure this is the best place for this rant...you will understand...

I work in a bookstore. I enjoy most of the time but every once and a while I will get a customer that makes me wish I wasn't an employee so I could really just let them have my opinion (like the lady who asked me if there were any books for her daughter telling about sex and her body that also told her daughter it was against God to be gay...that was special)

Tonight there was a man buying a copy of Newsweek, and Sarah Palin was on the cover. When he approached me he tossed the magazine towards me and as I scanned it he goes "now have you ever seen a prettier cover girl?"...that got a oh-you-think-you're-funny smile, and I continued to check him out. At the end of the transaction he asked me what the consensus of "young people" is of Sarah Palin, because I obviously will be able and willing to speak for the rest of my contemporaries...

I say that it is good to see any woman in a place of such potential (and I truly believe that I just wish it wasn't this woman...really really) hoping that would be the end of our conversation. It wasn't.

He then goes not just a woman a conservative woman, you must want to vote for McCain now...those liberals will have a hard time getting their pro-choice agenda with this woman and her baby in the way...

Okay so first off why would anyone just randomly come up to another person and assume they know the politics and beliefs of this person?...

Next why would you ask me one person what the entire youth of America thinks of anything...contrary to popular belief the youth of America and hell the world does not all think the same and hold the same beliefs...this is a diverse world and age has nothing to do with it...

And lastly why in the hell would you assume that I'm voting for McCain now that Sarah Palin is on his ticket because she is a woman and so am I...are you going to vote for Obama/Biden because they are both men?...No? oh well then do not assume that I'm going to vote for McCain/Palin because I'm a woman...

I am a woman who knows who will look after my interests in ways that McCain and Palin won't...so hell no am I going to vote for them...

Well, you must have looked intelligent and capable, so obviously you must agree with him as all intelligent people do. Of course. He's so implacably right (no pun intended) that all intelligent people agree with him.

In my former job I once had occasion to interview an individual who claimed to be "the last non-imprisoned member of the Viper Militia". As I saw him out of the office he complimented me on what an intelligent and rational and well-spoken person I was.

Later I realized the rationale behind his comment: to him I must have appeared intelligent and rational, because I'd never specifically contradicted him. Nor -- let me make this clear -- had I agreed with him: I'd limited my comments to "Oh, really!" "Is that so." "Ah." "Some people do say that." "So I've been told", and the like. But because I hadn't told him he was full of shit, obviously I must agree with him, and that meant I was a smart sensible person. S-M-R-T, smart.

I am the kind of person that always knows just what to say, about fifteen minutes after the situation.

This one called for: "I sell books, so I can't really vote for someone who has tried to ban books."
