John Stewart on sexism and choice

Last week I watched the DNC with great interest, but since the RNC started, it has been hard to watch for a number of reasons (I disagree with their politics, their defense of McCain/Palin insults my intelligence, knowing the the rest of my family was loving every minute of it, etc). But then I watched "The Daily Show" last night, and it was all worth it. Here are a few clips from last night:

In the first clip, Stewart points out that Republicans use the "gender card" and sexism when it suits them.

In the second clip, Stewart talks with Newt Gingrich about Sarah Palin. My favorite part takes place about 4 minutes in when Stewart asks about Bristol's choice to keep her child and yet Palin wants to take away other women's right to that choice. (Ann had a great post earlier about the issue of Bristol's choice.)

I LOVE this guy. I wish we had this show in the UK. I was just cheering throughout those clips.

But why do I get John Stewart and Keith Olbermann mixed up!? :P

Karl Rove, haha. He used to be an evil genius, now he's a jenius.

If this was a Democratic candidate, O'Reilly would've been on that faster than Yogi on a pick-a-nick basket.

Jon Stewart is always very good when it comes to the issue of choice. Some of his best interviews are about it.

If you have time I recommend watching the whole episode. Samantha Bee will be your new favorite person.

Its sorry that you have to look to a fake news show to get accurate news...

I would like the choice to have Jon Stewart's baby.

j/k. :o)

But he's probably the single reason I wish I had more cable channels.

I love Jon Stewart/The Daily Show, but they can't always be relied upon to find the feminism, so to speak. (Colbert generally does a little better, IMO.) But they've been doing really good stuff with this election. Samantha Bee's segment about voting for whoever she can identify with "gynecologically" was epic.

Joylnn, we're totally posting that in a bit. :)

Misspelled-

I think all (if any) non "feminist" jokes and whatnot from the Daily Show really are in good nature. Unless you've seen something I haven't.

I agree about Samantha Bee's piece. She's really funny. We have to take a break from real news to watch the Daily Show because otherwise we'd cry. It's a breath of fresh air- too bad people have to put it in the context of a joke when dealing with serious issues because no one else will pick them up!

Ha! Thanks for posting this. I love Jon Stewart but don't always get a chance to watch his shows.

Oh yeah. Definately look at the most recent episode. With Mike Huckabee. It's really funny and soooo true.

I have to agree--Stewart is hilarious and insightful (or his team of writers/news-hounds are insightful...or both). Real news or not, he and Colbert are pretty much the only coverage I've been able to stomach watching during the RNC. And last night's interviews with RNCers about Bristol her choice were priceless.

I love that show. As to the GOP its that baldfaced lying hypocrisy that gets me. My God have they no shame?

after that first video i want to punch dick morris in the face, THE FACE!

I think I'm actually dying of jealousy. For some reason, Comedy Central and a lot of other websites that show copyrighted material, have all completely blocked access in Indonesia! I understand that piracy is a problem here, but I can't even watch a clip?!

I haven't seen the daily show in ages...

Haha, I shouldn't be laughing but it's so true! I'm just sick to death of hearing about Sarah Palin.. she gets me all riled up but I just think giving her press about it is taking away press from the real issues. Note that the press was all over Obama's speech and then she was announced as VP and away went the coverage! Anybody who didn't watch the news on that ONE night would have completely missed the coverage of his speech. So yeah, less Palin Press please! That being said, I can't wait to see her in a debate with Biden!

You know, stuff like this is the best example of why we need to protect Net Neutrality. Before the internet it was much harder to keep up with and clearly remember when politicians contradict themselves and never admit to anything in the past. But now the web won't allow the same ease for cover-ups and outright denial. If big corporations (like those that own most of the news networks) were able to control the endless information and records, we'd be back in the dark.
