More Masculine Misogyny at Christian School

A kid from my conservative christian college in Kentucky posted this Facebook note earlier today. I think it wondrously sums up the "forward-thinking" ideas of many men in christian circles.

**Note: this is not a representation of ALL christians, or all christian men. I have plenty of guy friends (including my boyfriend) who want to kick this kid's ass.

"The Nature of Male and Female interaction: the problems therein

I recently came across this quote on a friends wall...and was greatly disturbed.

"The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness and kindness, can be trained to do most things."

This should not be the definition of Masculinity. If this is what we have become, may we all commit Hari-Kari for death is a far more honorable fate than this.

Men, refuse to be whipped any longer. Stand up, be a man, and retake control. If the Girl is over controlling, and is not willing to collaborate with you, then leave her. no girl is worth selling your soul and your balls.

What is the definition of a real man? Men are rough, yet refined. Ruggedly independent, yet part of a team-like brotherhood. Men are powerful, yet gentle. Men are solid, yet willing to collaborate. Men are intense. Men are intent. Men are creative. Men are rebellious and free, in a positive way. Men have a purpose, or are attempting to meaningfully discover it. Men are wild and free. Men are always the Gentleman: honorable, trustworthy, firm, confident, loyal, courteous, kind, brave, courageous, decisive, and educated. We should be protecting of the weak, gentle and tender, and self-sacrificing, as well as ironclad, resolute, immovable, and uncorrupted. Men should be of great class, and elegance, as well as be capable combatants, both physically and mentally. Men must be willing to do the hard thing, the thing that counts. We must be free thinkers, and non-conformists. We must be free and independent. This should be what we are striving toward. Men are no 2-Dimensional object or plaything. We are far more complex that we even imagine, and to simplify us so that women can have a hope of comprehension is wrong.

Men should not be: domesticated, servient , demeaning, abusive, cowards, liars, untrustworthy, disloyal, passe, boring, cliche, weak, two-faced, backstabbing/cutthroats, irresolute, indecisive. We must cease being sterile, bored men. We cannot simplify our selves. We are not playthings. Instead, we are made just a little lower that the Son of God, and the Angels (Elohim).

Men are sovereigns. No longer should we bow before this conniving yoke of feminist America. Women seem to have this idea that they (women) are superior. They are not. They are equal. Remember these words immortalized by "A Wrinkle in Time": "Equal and same are not alike."

They say things like: "the sooner you realize that women are always right, life will be better"; and "why are boys so weird" (referring to the fact that they do not understand us, b/c we are not like them); and "If momma ain't happy, then nobody's gonna be happy". This is not right. This is tyranny by the all-powerful vagina. Do not be led around by your fleshly desires any longer. They control us by taunting us with what we want. Instead, we must be disciplined, and reuse to copromise our standards, morals, and ideals. Shake off your apathy, and learn what it means to be created in God's image. We were pronounced good as Men.

Shake off your apathy and guilty fears. Rise up ye men of God, take off your dresses, and with loud voice lift up your battle cry . Lay slumbering in the slough of despond no longer, but join up with Christ your General, who rides astride a white horse, and leads you with a sharp two edged sword. We were made to be warriors, but our culture is decrying this most excellent aspect of men. Women have brainwashed us, and we, like sheep have been led astray.

Ask yourself: Am I significant? Do I matter? How can I make an impact? What happens when you think of the great acts of history? When you remember the epic battles of old? Does not something stir deep in your soul? a longing for a cause, a battle to fight, an epic to live? It is there, for each of us. You must journey deep inside yourself to find this ember, otherwise, you will find yourself age 35, potbellied, miserable, 2.5 kids, and a wife, a dog, in a cubicle, in a routine, in a monotonous insignificant life, making no impact. You scratch the same exact spot on the ground everyday, building a rut. eventually, that rut becomes a bigger rut that is 6 feet down, and 6 feet long: a grave. Then you die, meaninglessly, forgotten, and unloved. But you were already dead, were you not? You diesd when you domesticated yourself, and stopped growing, striving and achieving. You stopped growing, therefor, stopped Living a long time ago. Do you want to just be another brick in the wall? can you stomach a bored grey passe existence? Is the point of life mere existence, or motivated action designed for impact? Are you a cookie cutter gingerbread man, or are you someone important: and iron man, cut out of rock, forged and beaten into shape, so that when the day of evil comes, you may stand your ground, and not flee like some pathetic coward into the brush, leaving your friends, family, ideals, and dignity to be raped and slaughtered wholesale?

Here is the hope of the matter: Christ is in the buisness of bringing the dead back to life. He wants you to rise up, and can put flesh back on your old dry bones. he can restore strength to your lame legs, and sight to your blind eyes. he can raise his army out of the dust of the ground...a new race of perfect Adams. Are you ready for this first resurrection?

Make your choice."

Wow. i have no words. Well I had words when I left  this comment on his wall: "I would have no problem with this if instead of Men you said PEOPLE. But as it stands you can go fuck yourself. oh and I would LOVE to hear more about 'tyranny by the all-powerful vagina.'"

...Damn. Wow. If the vagina was really all powerful, why would we still be fighting for equality?

Yeah, uh huh.

Clearly, this jerk doesn't believe his own manifesto: what he is saying here is neither courteous, kind, honorable, or educated (among other things), and he's saying that he wants all men to become Men by thinking freely and not conforming. Too bad that his qualifications for becoming a Man cause men to conform to a certain type of person who follows all of his rules and believes in Christ. Yeah, that's not conforming at all, it's totally thinking freely, and this little diatribe was sooo not contradictory at all.

My all-powerful vagina resents the co-opting of Madeleine L'Engle's words for the purposes of idiocy. Sigh.

Ugh. My favorite sci-fi book. And a misquote, too.

Uh oh. My all-powerful vagina feels a threat to its tyranny. Clitoris army, ATTACK!

Seriously, though, it's interesting how he paints masculinity as the opposite of all the bad shit people like him say about women:

"Men should not be: domesticated, servient , demeaning, abusive, cowards, liars, untrustworthy, disloyal, passe, boring, cliche, weak, two-faced, backstabbing/cutthroats, irresolute, indecisive. We must cease being sterile, bored men. We cannot simplify our selves. We are not playthings."

Thanks, asshole: should women.

----UPDATE----
This is a private message he sent me after I commented negatively on his note:

"Ms. Payne

You are presenting an illogical, PMS-driven, irrational, ad-hominem tossing, non sequiter argument, that only a radical feminist, who was probably severely damaged at one point, and now has a chip on her shoulder could possibly dream up. Stop acting like an eight year-old bratty girl, and grow up into a mature adult woman.

If you want to debate in a public forum, and actually have a chance of being listened to, learn some logic, calm down, and actually know what you are talking about, instead of making wild claims, and then screaming like a little child, over and over, louder and louder. I have lost a lot of respect for you tonight, and I hope that you are merely acting that way, b/c you are experiencing your period, and that this unbecoming conduct is not your usual behavior.

Sincerely,
James R.W. Hiatt, Esq

And yes, the Run-on sentaces were intentional."

One word: jerk. What's sad is that I know a lot of men like that. These guys go to women telling them they need more men in their lives and to stop being stubborn since it's a turn off. (Yes I am speaking from personal experience.) I'm sorry, I like who I am and I like men who are the antithesis of the man described here. Thank you.

Wow. Post that e-mail in another comment on his note. Along with definitions of all the ten-dollar debate words he used incorrectly. I wonder how many friends he's alienating with that note?

You just couldn't make it up, could you?

Wow, that personal response to voxtrollop... It's a thing of beauty. He's raised trollish anti-feminist rhetoric into an art form.

The multiple references to menstruation, the artful way he worked in "calm down."

I'm breathless.

C'est Magnifique

Also I find it fascinating that he says that women should be equal in the same paragraph where he says men are sovereigns.

Ah...but he qualifies it with: "Equal and same are not alike". What drivel? I wonder at all the use of female anatomical parts in his hilariously stilted "Rise, all ye men" rant: Did some girl just turn him down? I think, he suffers from too much insecurity *Bleh*

This from the man who wants to rise up and answer the call of God. Yeah, he's really dedicated to LOGIC.

I like one of his paragraphs, but he forgot two letters:

What is the definition of a real woman? Women are rough, yet refined. Ruggedly independent, yet part of a team-like sisterhood. Women are powerful, yet gentle. Women are solid, yet willing to collaborate. Women are intense. Women are intent. Women are creative. Women are rebellious and free, in a positive way. Women have a purpose, or are attempting to meaningfully discover it. Women are wild and free. Women are always the Lady: honorable, trustworthy, firm, confident, loyal, courteous, kind, brave, courageous, decisive, and educated. Yeah, that sounds about right. :-)

Crum, I missed that the last sentence of the post already made my point. Oh well. At least that means I agree with smart people already. ;-)
