Palin Schmalin

I also posted this at www.fortworthfeminism.com. I wasn't going to post it here because I thought maybe the whole "republicans thinking women will vote for any woman" thing has been written about enough, but then I thought that experiences with our families and politics are worth posting.

So, the very second it was announced that McCain chose a woman to be his VP, my family assumed (and rejoiced) that I would immediately change my political affiliation. Here's what they probably thought I was thinking:

"She's got ovaries, I've got ovaries, I'm a feminist and she's a woman - this must mean I'm a Republican now!"

Well, they were disappointed to learn that this is not the case. In fact, my mom hung up on me when I refused to watch Palin's convention speech. I was having a fun night and I knew listening to her would ruin it. Besides, I was busy watching Run's House. I know, I know, MTV reality programming isn't as important as watching "history" or politics or whatever but i just knew it would ruin my night. So I didn't watch it. But I have been reading about it, and Surprise! she contradicted herself a lot (link below). But then again, I'm pretty sure all the speeches had some inaccuracies and that politicians are mostly douchebags.

Looks like you women are costing Obammy the election. Self serving Hilldabeast is campaigning for him half heartedly. Typical of Hillary lol, she is in the republicans hand though. (What a fool)

Stupid feminazis, looks like we get to kill your rights and Obammy at the same time.

McCain is a genius, I knew you women vote on sheer emotion. They will vote for SP because she is a woman, just look the latest polls that came out today. You feminazis can't do anything about the mass amount of women who don't read this site.

Man SP is awesome. She reminds me of an FLDS woman, so obedient and sexy to boot.

Lol to bad for Obammy

I can't wait the RvsW is overturned and righteousness is restored.

No B. Hussein Obama.

McCain/Palin 08

Ugh, annoying trolls.

Anyway, I'm a little afraid to talk to several of my family members about Palin too. I'm sure they must think the same thing your family did but I keep avoiding the subject as much as I can. It would just kill me to hear praise of her from any of my family.

Wow. I feel so lucky that my mom is liberal, progressive and feminist. Good luck.

Are there moderators for the community comments? I feel like the level of ignorant sexist trolls have increased dramatically recently.

On another note, good luck with dealing with the family. I'm glad my parents actually research facts about candidates. My extended, conservative family? That's sadly another story.
