As if I needed another reason to roll my eyes at this woman.
Addressing a crowd at a rally in California yesterday, Gov. Sarah Palin served us lady-folk a "providential" ultimatum. From the article :
"I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, ok? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"
Nevermind that Albright never said that, or that the real quote is "There's a place in hell for women who don't help other women", or that a vote in support of Mrs. Palin would probably hurt other women... but what is this folksy hockey mom doing drinking Starbucks? Doesn't she know that's elitest?!
Anyway, here's the video:
Please, fellow feminists. Discuss. Oh, and don't even get me STARTED on that glass ceiling bulls**t.

Uh...did Sarah Palin just call herself progressive?
Good catch. I had a feeling that was misquoted, but I couldn't remember what the original quote was.
The hilarious think about the video is this:
Palin picked this (mis)quote because she believed that it basically said that all women should support (vote for) women based solely on their gender.
But, when she reads the name Madeline Albright, before getting to the quote, the crowd BOOS! After they hear the quote they clap and cheer, obviously of the persuasion that women should support women no matter what.
I love that Palin just made the entire crowd a mass of TOTAL FUCKING HYPOCRITES!
So then, by her own logic, she's already gotten her one-way ticket to Hell?
Did you see the part just before this? She gets an endorsement from the president of LA's chapter of NOW.

This is also on a Starbucks cup:
"The Way I See It #234
How have we become so addicted to petroleum oil? How would the world be different if we could make all our own fuel in our own country? For the last two years I have driven to work on soybeans. This is possible in our lifetime.

CEO of Imperium Renewables, a biodiesel refinery company."
Re AnUnfunnyFeminist's comment:
Shelly Mandel did drop her job title, but she did say that her endorsement of Palin was as an individual, not as a spokesperson for NOW.
But it certainly poses an interesting question: Is it possible to be a feminist and a McCain/Palin supporter?
The best part is were it true that there is a place in hell for women who don't help other women Palin is certainly going there.
If that's our choice, we choose hell. See you there! (And of course we'll see Governor Palin there too.)
The actual quote... was it about voting for women or supporting their well-being?
On the elitist beverage:
You must have missed the memo, whatever Palin does automatically BECOMES part of the lifestyle of the Average American. Y'know, like living in a mansion and earning 250K a year and having enough money to support 5 children + a grandchild on the way. As long as she punctuates it with a few "Doggone-it"s, it MUST be average!
Guess our economy isn't doing to bad after all if most people can afford a $4 mocha in the morning....
Is it possible to be a feminist and a McCain/Palin supporter?
That's a much harder question than it looks. It's sort of like asking if one can still be a feminist and shop at Wal-Mart. Sometimes, there are just no pro-feminist alternatives. My gut reaction was to say, No, you can't support McCain/Palin and be a feminist, because neither supports women's rights and all of their policies would hurt women. If I thought Obama would ruin the country but still held progressive views on women's rights, I wouldn't vote for him. Then again, I probably still wouldn't vote for McCain.
unfortunately I think thatgirl is right *sigh*
This worthless lump of flesh doesn't deserve to call herself a human being. She wants rape victims to pay for their own rape kits. Pure evil.
Gee whiz doggone it, this sure comes as no surprise. They do nothing but lie and twist facts to their advantage. The sad part is that people believe it.
ugh, that's my favourite starbucks quote too (along with gloria steinem's). but that's effing hilarious that the whole crowd made themselves a bunch of hypocrites.
wow, this is a stunning example of Palin's ineptitude. The unfortunate part is that this inaccurate statement will probably end up in political gain for Palin. After all, most voters devote a very small amount of time to the news each day, and if they do hear this statement, the chance that they will later find out that it is misquoted is very low. How to solve this problem? It sometimes seems that the practice of quoting is to blame. Is it ever possible to tap into the quintessence and message of a speech, song, book, or movie just by clipping out one small soundbite or sentence? It seems to me that this very practice of trying to reduce a long piece of work to one or two sentences is the very thing that is wrong with the major media in the United States. How can we fix this problem?? Well, I think we should just trust Caesar.
