I want to share with the feministing community a manifesto created at "Toujours rebelles! Waves of resistance Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering"
The gathering brought together more than 500 young feminists from all over Canada to Montreal for a weekend of discussions, workshops, direct actions and the creation/adoption of this amazing manifesto.
This gathering enngaged me, changed me and challenged me on how I view feminism. I had never been a part of a direct action before. I had never really understood the struggles of indigenous women, differently abled women, or sex trade workers to name a tiny fraction of women who in the past were marginalized by the feminist movement. I had never grasped the scope of systems of priveledge and intersections of oppression; I still don't completely but at least now I try to recognise the priveledge that comes with being white and middle class.
I wish I was a good enough writer to truly express how amazing this conference was. Some amazing women, who are fantastic writers, were on a committee which spent hours and hours writing, revising, and editing this manifesto so that the self identified young Women of RebELLEs could adopt it and call it our own.
