"Jizz In My Pants" - A song that's supposed to be a joke, but disgusts me!

The song is called Jizz In My Pants and it's by a group called "The Lonely Island".

I get it. This song is supposed to give some great laughs. It's humorous some would say. It's just entertainment others would argue. Don't I have a sense of humor some would also ask.

But I don't agree at all and I don't find it funny. My problem with songs and videos such as this is that it's not a joke. The song brings forth some very serious issues women deal with and men need to care about because it affects them too! It might be funny if these serious issues were not real, but they are and that means that songs such as this are not the least bit funny to me. In fact, I'm very upset. I didn't see any posts about this and wanted to share it with everyone.

The 14-year-old I nanny finds this song hilarious. This indicates that this music is reaching those that do not comprehend it entirely let alone how it hurts feminist causes. My point is many including young adults are watching this. It is reaching a huge audience.

Some lines for example are "Don't tell your friends or I'll say you're a slut." WOW-This is not funny because it actually happens to women!

or the "lovely"..."plus it's your fault you were rubbing my butt" This feeds into problems with rape myths and other issues I find. Blaming the victim much!? Yes, still a huge problem.

Overall, I can't find this music humorous because these "jokes" that are made are a serious problem that our society needs to address and as a feminist I work to address. As I said it might be funny only if rape never existed. If it was part of a fantasy world, but even then I don't really get the humor in it. I don't understand how treating someone cruelly is hilarious in any way.

This is my first post! I look forward to hearing people's comments so please make them! :-D Thank you!

The only time I've heard this song was in a video on SNL a few weeks ago, in which it was most definitely a joke, and a satire on music videos in general, so I didn't find it that offensive. I guess I just think that critiquing pop culture is an extremely important activity, and comedy and satire are totally legitimate methods for doing this.

What she said. The video is very clearly making fun of the man. Humor is a very effective way to deal with serious issues.

I think that having lines like "don't tell your friends or I'll say you're a slut" or "plus it's your fault, you were rubbing my butt" used in this context actually helps our cause more than it hinders it. They're clearly being portrayed as ridiculous, not as legitimate.

Also, blaming the victim doesn't apply here - the women are engaging in consensual activities. They're not vicitims.

I'd be offended too if I thought the song/video actually did anything to legitimize or encourage rape. As it stands, though, I take it in the spirit it was meant - as a joke.

I think that having lines like "don't tell your friends or I'll say you're a slut" or "plus it's your fault, you were rubbing my butt" used in this context actually helps our cause more than it hinders it. They're clearly being portrayed as ridiculous, not as legitimate.

Exactly. The thing to keep in mind is that the male in the video is presented as naive and impotent because he gets too excited by women that he prematurely ejaculates, before any sexual intercourse can even take place. Having the singer then go on to say things like "don't tell your friends or I'll say you're a slut" suggests that this kind of language is used by certain types of men to cover up their own insecurities and inadequacies.

The main question we can still ask, of course, is whether young kids catch the satire: a 14-year-old may not even be sure what is going on in the video. It reminds me of a time when I saw a bunch of tweens dancing and singing to "Barbie Girl" (by Aqua? I forget) and told my college friends, "do you think they know that song is ironic, or not?" I got outvoted 3 to 1 that the kids weren't catching the irony at all. But then this is a question of style, more than content.

I would have gotten it when I was 14. The men are pretty obviously objects of ridicule.

I don't think you can argue that something is bad because there's a risk that someone might not get the joke. If the vast majority of people miss the joke completely, you can argue that it's not a very good joke. If a few 14 year olds miss the joke (and in this case, the joke is very, very obvious) then that's not a huge deal in the long run.

I thought the same thing when my boyfriend and I came across this video! I thought it was funny, but I definitely felt uncomfortable with the lines that you listed..

The thing about it is.. there are a good amount of people who laugh, but still don't see those kinds of jokes as a joke.. does that make sense? Sometimes it's difficult for me to find something funny when it's something that a significant amount of people would say, you know? Don't you think there are guys watching this who still identify with the male? It's not that they're laughing at how ridiculous it is (those lines in particular, I mean). I'm sure there are some guys who would would say those things, or who would tell people a woman was a slut if she didn't do what he wanted her to (in this case, tell people that he's a premature ejaculator). So yeah, it's ridiculous (and most people get that), but the joke most likely goes over the heads of people who would say it in the first place, right? So where does that get us? Maybe I would be more OK with it if I saw more guys actively call another guy out for calling a girl a slut or a whore. Most of the time those words are used freely and go unchecked (in real life and the media), and it's left up to the viewer to decide whether it's right or wrong. I wish more people would always see it as wrong.

Sometimes I worry that I'm being nit-picky about the sexism I see in media.. but it really is everywhere, and it so often goes completely unnoticed. So I think it's ok to analyze it (or vent about it), no matter how insignificant or harmless it may seem.

Also, the 14-year-old girl watching it is pretty bothersome - gosh, kids have access to anything these days. I just found out last night that my 13-year-old sister watched the disgusting porn called '2 girls, 1 cup'. UGH.

But in the video itself they're making fun of these kinds of attitudes. In other words, they're not advocating for men to have this kind of attitude toward women, but rather pointing out in a humorous way how absolutely ridiculous it is. I guess there always is the risk that a few people won't get the joke and will take it seriously, but I don't think that's reason enough to abandon parody and satire as forms of cultural critique. Apparently there are a few people who don't get that Colbert is playing the part of a character who has ridiculously conservative views in order to show how silly these views really are, but I don't think that's a reason for us to protest his show. History shows that satire does a lot to change public opinion, and you can reach people through comedy that you wouldn't be able to reach via more serious mediums.

Hey, I appreciate everyone's comments. I do agree that it's obviously humorous to maybe intelligent, open-minded individuals, but not to the average person I would argue.

As for humor aiding serious issues..I still think someone would need to highlight and explain the humor. This "joke video" is not being watched by people that can decipher between joke and truth..reality and fantasy. A 14-year-old boy will look at someone funny and imitate. Once that imitation is then seen by other boys and laughed upon, it's encouraged more.

Also, nattles_thing it's fortunate you would have understood it when you were that age. Unfortunately, I don't think all young adults that age have the education to understand that.

Also, I don't think humor and satire should be completely dissolved. I was pointing to this video specifically.

Thank you for your comments!

People make fun of premature ejaculation all the time. It's right up there with small penises and an inability to get it up. It's never, ever glamorized or celebrated by society. The opposite, in fact -- it's ridiculed and undesirable, and men who suffer from that problem go to lengths to fix it. Even a middle school boy knows he doesn't want to come too fast. That may not be completely fair, but that's how it is. The American Pie movies, Californication, and the lots and lots of comedians make fun of it.

A 14 year old boy who sees this is going to laugh AT the guys in the video, not WITH them. They are objects of derision. An idiot can see that.

It's a funny video, and it makes sense that the girl you nanny thinks it's funny. I don't know if you've discussed it with her enough to find out WHY she thinks it's funny, but assuming she thinks it's funny because premature ejaculation is cool is doing her a disservice.

Anyway, this isn't really about rape. The guy blames the girl for being a slut because he's embarrassed about jizzing in his pants. It's pathetic, and that's made really obvious. Maybe someone really young wouldn't get it, but someone that young probably shouldn't be watching videos making fun of premature ejaculation.

"As for humor aiding serious issues..I still think someone would need to highlight and explain the humor."

How else can the humor be highlighted except by being humorous? It seems pretty straightforward to me, and having some sort of guide-to would ruin the joke. No one likes having the punch line explained to them three seconds after they've heard it.

"This "joke video" is not being watched by people that can decipher between joke and truth..reality and fantasy."

What people are you talking about and what statistics do you have to determine that they can't tell the difference between a joke and truth? To say that fans of SnL - which is to say SATIRE AND COMEDY FANS, the number one people you'd EXPECT to be able to tell the difference between a joke and a truth - can't do this is to make a pretty odd statement.

"A 14-year-old boy will look at someone funny and imitate. Once that imitation is then seen by other boys and laughed upon, it's encouraged more."

Yes, but we can't only put out material that we can be positive everyone will get or leave untwisted/unimitated. I know you said that you weren't arguing for a ban on satire in general, but if this is ban-worthy, where does it stop?

"Also, nattles_thing it's fortunate you would have understood it when you were that age. Unfortunately, I don't think all young adults that age have the education to understand that."

I think if we can entrust our young adults with Grand Theft Auto, violent movies, and extremely misogynistic music while defending these things on the basis of freedom of speech, I fail to see how extensive education is needed to deal with Lonely Island. It seems as though your opinion of a teenagers intellect is pretty low, but if I ever hear a fourteen year imply that he now treats women like sluts because of the "Jizz in my Pants" video, I'd be tremendously surprised.

The big hole in your argument here is that it can't possibly be blaming the victim in this case, since she's NOT A VICTIM. She clearly wanted to sleep with the guy. There's no coercion or unwanted sexual advances. So saying it's her fault isn't blaming the victim, it's blaming her for his embarrassing predicament. There's a huge difference, and putting this kind of spin in such an inappropriate situation sort of trivializes actually victimized women.

I also think it's a bit condescending to say that the "average person" as opposed to "intelligent people" wouldn't get it. It's a satiric video on a comedy show. Even 14 year old boys would get that "jizzing one's pants" isn't supposed to be serious or glamorized.

That line sounded bad to me, too. After I watched the whole video, though, I came to agree with what the other commenters have said: the line is meant to make fun of the man's predicament, not put down the woman. I love the combination of sound, style, and lyrical parody that is part of the song, as it reminds me quite a bit of Flight of the Conchords and the like.

OVERTHINKING ALERT: However, I would say that the video is more harmful towards men than women. I mean, if you're jizzing your pants after merely eating a grape, there's something wrong with you and you ought to seek medical attention. On the other hand, occasional premature ejaculation is a problem only if you adhere to a silly PIV-sex centric view of sex. The first situation the video described could, theoretically, involve a perfectly normal and healthy male who just happens to have a bit of a problem with ejaculation control. Instead of mocking guys with that small problem, we should encourage them to work on the problem via exercises, and engage in lots of mutual oral and manual stimulation.

I think it's hilarious (well, the first verse, then it's just 3 minutes of the same joke) and is far more anti-man (at least the "manly" stereotypes young men are supposed to aspire to) than anti-woman. The problem with all satire is that a) You must mimic that which you are trying to put down and b) some people will take it seriously and not get it. I don't think that should stop Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake from trying to use their fame as a platform to show guys what they look like in the a-hole mirror.

I see what you're saying, but I just didn't like the idea of blaming her even for the premature ejaculation. There were no intentions in trivializing victims because I am a survivor of sexual assault and am unfortunately, close to many that have also been sexually assaulted. Of course this brings up how my own experience affects how I view material such as this. I'm sure my opinion may be obscured at times because of it. It's still a really painful situation, and I don't think you ever really "get over" it.

I'm saying that humor is great, but I think sometimes with issues such as these it takes away from how serious problems are, and it makes me wonder as to the point of having humor on the subject then.

As for saying the "average person"..I think many people are ignorant to certain topics such as this and don't know to grasp all the concepts being thrown at them. I did not mean to insult so I do apologize if I offended anyone.

Anyway, thank you again for your responses. It helped me understanding my own criticisms and bring to light some valuable opinions

I think you took a song from a show that clearly makes fun of a lot of things, and blew it up to be some feminist bullcrap. yes the one like about being a slut is bad, but the song is clearly making fun of the guy. "i opened my window and in came a breeze and i jizzed in my pants" i could understand if the entire video had a degrading tone to it, but this is pure humor, not something meant actually put people down. Maybe you should think before you post stuff. This song talks nothing about rape. you just brought it to a whole other LUDICROUS level.

i think that it is a silly song making fun of today's style of music. today's music (rap, hip-hop) speaks of nothing more than either killing or fucking.. i think that that is the greater issue, rather than silly parodies that are trying to reach out and grab people's attention. people are all about shock value anymore, so i see this video as nothing more than a very good point being made to kids.

that sex is something that is supposed to be discreet. (the sublimital message that i hear when i watch this video..... you have to think like a kid..... open your mind and shut your mouth... and see it for what it is: nothing more than a joke, noone will see it as anything more than that..)

and the "say anything, i'll say you're a slut" first off: its him being defensive... second... who would believe him?

women: you need to learn to turn the other cheek, we say we want equal rights, but then turn around and demand rights that men don't have because we "deserve them" if we want equality, then we need to learn to express it

Cassie, you and several females, and possibly males in this thread seem to continually miss the point. This video has absolutely nothing to do with rape or any other form of sexual assualt. There is nothing to indicate any sort of sexual assualt here. A man jizzing in his pants suddenly is not sexual assualt. There is a gorgeous female, whom I read about in an article, that suffers from uncontrollable orgasms 100's of times a day. She could be talking to her father and suddenly she ejaculates. She is not sexually assualting her father is she? Apparently by some people's logic here she is.

To the original poster. You are too sensitive to satire. There is nothing here demeaning to women at all. This is 100% demeaning to males, yet I haven't seen any men complaining about it. This video is completely and only making fun of men who prematurely ejaculate and those who can't control themselves around women. Those types are not exactly what women are looking for, and they are making FUN of those types of guys, so if anything this is a positive video for women. Also, when sandberg threatens to call the girl a slut, he is making fun of himself, not women. He is showing how he is embarrassed with himself and how he needs to cover it up. This theme of premature ejaculation could not be more obvious when the video leads to them ejaculationg when a window opens or when eating grapes, two things which don't need to involve women.

People need to be able to let things bounce off them more often. This world is full of people who are thin skinned and it is exactly why this society and this world is falling apart. People sueing people over the simplest of things and winning, and organizations like the ACLU working to destroy freedom and establish double standards such as anything christian being banned from public schools, but if it's another religion, it's perfectly all right, simply because they may be a minority. Off track, but my point is, unless things are blatanlty anti-feminist, or sexism, then why do you need to get worked up over something so simple. Let it go, you didn't find it funny, but it isn't hurting anyone other then men with premature ejaculation.

Ok. Look. These videos are for pure entertainment. Things that happen in the real world should be alliterated to how people make jokes. I'm sure you've made a joke once or twice about a person. Well, what if you decided to make a little money off of that because you were talented?

People like you make me sick. Laugh a little. You only live once. Put your fun face on, then watch this video one more time.
