NY Giants kick fan out of stadium for "racy outfit".

They said there were children present.

This is my first post on Feministing, so I would like to say hello to everyone. I've been lurking around for a while, made a few comments, but nothing much due to my shy nature, even online, if you could believe that.

I just found this interesting, since my boyfriend watches a lot of football, and I constantly see women and cheerleaders very lightly clad all the time in the stadiums. So what was so special about this situation, that this woman was humiliated and embarrassed for her outfit, I really have to wonder. What are your thoughts?

Oh, and my apologies if this has already been posted.

"She figures other women “got jealous and complained.” "

This phrase in the article, probably intended by the author of the article to "lighten up the situation" and divert blame from the actual decision maker is very revealing. It shows the constant threat and compition that is farmed between women by current society.

Instead of her being angry at the stadium and calling b*llsh*t on "there are children present," she has shown that she feels repressed within her own identity group. (yes, i'm assuming she identifies as the "female-norm")

Well said.

I too saw the pictures and could not understand what the fuss was about since cheerleaders tend to wear even skimpier outfits. Maybe they really did kick her out because of the bags and signs??

And aren't men allowed to go to games topless? And don't they cover their naked upper bodies in body paint under the same spirit? Teams need to have consistent rules, whatever they are.

However it shouldn't be missed that there is a trend where women's bodies cannot be on display unless it contributes to someone else's wallet; otherwise, it is unacceptable. Heaven forbid a woman wants to breast feed in public, for example.

But I do have to laugh when women such as this one, assume that other women are simply "jealous" of their looks. Yet these same women never seem to call out men for talking shit about fat women or older women or any women who don't meet the "ideal standard", even when they themselves don't meet it. 9 times out 10, the jealousy comment is a baseless and embarrassing assumption for all parties involved.
