Ironic Target Audience: "Plan B" has a great sense of humor.

Last night, TLC had a Wedding special in which the eldest son of the Duggar family got married.

If you've never seen this show, or are wondering who they are, do a quick google search... the same two parents have birthed 18 kids & the family is INSANELY conservative.

I usually don't waste my time on this kind of trash, and have never seen the show prior to last night's special, but I couldn't resist watching two people VOW LET "GOD DETERMINE" HOW MANY CHILDREN THEY WERE TO HAVE in their ultra-traditional, "I promise to submit to my husband who has complete authority of me" wedding vows....

The ironic, and no doubt the best, part of it all--which tickled me pink beyond belief--was that this special was commercially sponsored by Plan B !

Great marketing (and sense of humor) on their part... for both those of us who watched the program for amusement/bewilderment, and for those who were watching it seriously.

Haha, that's hilarious. The Duggars would be furious if they knew they were sponsored by Plan B, considering they don't believe in kissing before marriage. I was actually going to write a post about the Duggars but just never got around to it. I had read about them on Wikipedia and read the Q & A section on their son and his fiancee's site. A couple interesting things I would have included in my post:
The Duggars were for birth control until the mother had accidentally gotten pregnant when she was on the pill then had a miscarriage. Then some religious doctor told her that the pill causes that, and they were so sad that their selfishness had killed their baby that they decided to let God decide how many children they would have (thus the reason she has been pregnant the equivalent of 12 years).
The son and his fiancee's site was absolutely ridiculous. They are telling the story of how they got together and everything is like "I told my dad that god wanted her and I to be together", "my dad told me he would have to ask God if he would let us court each other" etc etc. Pretty much, they don't believe that they make any decisions on their own, if they do make a decision they say 'I immediately knew that God was telling me this was the right thing to do'. Also, I think they are married now, but before the marriage they had never been alone anywhere before (only chaperoned dates with their parents).
There was more stuff, but these are two of the most interesting things about them. I can't bring myself to watch their show because they are just too ultra-conservative. I also feel their kids are going to be quite surprised at how the world works once they get out in it (they are all home-schooled and don't have tv I believe).

You know, I always think those "happy fathers day" ads from condom makers are always really funny, and wonder why they didn't target women the same way. I like kids and all, but you'd think that I took birth control to prevent headaches and bloating if you only watched commercials for yaz all day, you know?

Why can't we have cheeky bc ads too?

Thats so funny. Awesome.

YES! My boyfriend and I were watching this and saw the commercial also and it cracked us up. I have a minor obsession with the Duggars, so I've read all of their websites and stuff and even though I've been following the family for about a year, I'm still floored by some of the things they believe. Did anyone see the episode where they went to the intelligent design museum? The crew all gave interviews about whether or not they believe in evolution and you could tell that they all think the Duggars are pretty nutty. Also the commercial for the upcoming season shows the parents on vacation and they go into a headshop and point to the pipes and go "those are some funny looking glassware". Kills me.

One of the things that disturbs me most about this couple is that they are not having this many children because they love and want kids. They are part of the Quiverfull movement, which is basically based on the idea that children are arrows in God’s quiver for the war against… pretty much anything that they believe their god is against, so… a lot of things. Their children are not people, they are not a cherished gift, they are commodities. It’s incredibly sad.

And the courting thing is absurd. What better way to get to know someone than only talking to them a few times in an environment where they’re likely to censor everything they say and do!
