Disgusting

A friend of mine told me about an MSNBC piece she saw talked about the teen sex trade in the suburbs. The piece mentioned a website called My Redbook where people go on to rate and descibe their experience with sex workers and apparently they do so in gross detail. The message boards are private so I couldn't read what people have written but from its description it seems very disturbing.

The website's defense is that they are not "contributing" to prostitution, their site is merely a place for people to share their experiences.

Jesus Christ. Do these men have no idea about the reality of this issue? They think it's like rating a product they bought on Ebay or something? I am hoping the majority don't really know what they're doing, but some must know exactly what's going on and don't care. Fuck the people who knowingly support this trade.

I posted a video in the community post below about this. Now to see this post come up... it's just heartbreaking.

Speaking as an ally and activist for sex workers rights, these types of review boards are highly, highly problematic. It's a big problem because in order to read them, one has to become a member, either by paying or posting a review. Individual sex workers can't see their own reviews.

I don't understand the MSNBC story. First of all... its so hard to believe. I feel like I am reading some sick television show synopsis. But its real.

Second of all, the story states that she saw one of the rapists but he was not prosecuted. Why is that? He is prosecuted now? If not, she should have just killed him. No jury would convict.

Thirdly, it didn't mention Redbook that I could see?

It was from a more in-depth TV story...this was the news article that accompanied it

MSNBC talked a lot about how some of these girls are underage...how true is this?

I agree that this website is highly disgusting. Also, I was able to read some of the reviews...

I don;t doubt this is true. There was a story not so long ago about teenage prostitutes posting on Craigslist: http://valleywag.gawker.com/391385/craigslist-safest-place-for-teen-prostitutes

There's also their sister site, Pinkbook which is a site for women in the adult entertainment industry.
