Fox News and Cheerios
Apparently Fox News thinks this Cheerios commercial makes men look weak. I think it emphasizes the idea that women are weight obsessed. Personally, I think it's dumb that Fox News spent air time discussing an "anti-guy ceral." Really now? UGH! And the commentary is just... No words.

Apparently this commercial epitomizes the institutionalization of hatred against men. And of course, one would never see a commercial in which women are told to be quiet.
The blindness, the denial, the lie of patriarchy. It is really quite staggering.
omfg i hate that commercial.
At least it seemed like O'Reilly was making fun of the guy. I actually thought the interview was hysterical.
"You would never see this role reversed. You would never see this happen to a woman on TV."
Somebody should have played the Mr. Potato Head commercial for this guy.
And perhaps the one where the woman in the office receives flowers (to speak of being humilated on TV). This guy is just driven by hate isn't he?
Ha Ha Ha...Okay, usually Bill-O is the one who is way over the top...but this clip, the guest here makes conservative pundits like Bill-O look sane! (okay, maybe I shouldn't go that far)
But his first like talking about this commercial has got to be one of the craziest thing I've ever heard on cable news:
"This is the institutionalization of the hatred of man"
Gimmie a break?! A Cheerios commercial? In this particular commercial I saw a whole lot more of the female diet obsessed stereotype than anything else. Besides, there's so much crap out there showing the whole "stupid violent sex crazed uncontrollable male" stereotype...and this guy is getting upset over this?!?!?
Second of all, the "institutionalization of the hatred of men"? NO SUCH FRIGGIN' THING! Just like the "institutionalization of the hatred of white people" and the "institutionalization of the hatred of straight people" and fully abled people, and rich people and so on...no such thing...I can name no such institution. Sorry to promote violence here, but this guy needs a big whack on the back of his head to slap the crazy out of his brain.
Interesting note:
This commercial has been on tv for the last couple of years but the same actors had British accents. I'm not sure which stations I've seen it on (I'm in Canada) but it has definitely been around for a while and in its British form. I'm also really not sure they would have dubbed it to be released in the States.
I didn't see this comment. Yes, it's been dubbed with the generic American accent, and it's been airing in the US for two years.
That idiot (who, incidentally, isn't Bill O'Reilly) talks about some other Doritos commercial being sexist, but not the one where a woman's clothes are ripped off in the middle of the street without her consent. And since when is getting a snow globe to the balls sexist? Because women don't have balls?
That Cheerios commercial is like 2 years old, and I think it's from a different English-speaking country. It's obviously dubbed. But I guess the shaming of regular-sized women crosses cultures. And maybe Steve does need to shut up. The woman's trying to eat breakfast. She doesn't need a discussion about weight that early in the morning (or ever).
I'd like to see Bill O'Reilly and Dr. Phil in a celebrity death match. The only problem is that only one of them would "get the other side"...but I'd be satisfied if the other at least one lost all of their limbs. After all it is claymation....
I can't stand the fact that the guy's name in the commercial is Steve.
"What else does the box say?"
"The box says shut up Steve"
Damn. Just Damn. I can stand clueless assholes. Peter Griffin and Homer Simpsons. I can't stand dumb ass Stevens
It just goes to show how different people see different meaning from the same event.
Can I just say that I hate Fox-News and so I'm not surprised that they would come out against that commercial. If you read Susan Faludi book The Terror Dream she does an excellent job of explaining of how an attack against the so-called image of "Girly-men" or "Alan Alda-eque" men came under attack after 9/11 and how women needed guys like John Wayne to save them from the terrorist. All I can say is that Bill-O and he's buddies can suck it.
The commercial has nothing against MEN, it has something against a MAN who INSULTS HIS WIFE. It's a shot at all the commercials out there that stress weight loss and a common goal of all women and a "health" component of all food. It's against all those dumb commercials, not against men. I think it's a great commercial. Here is a woman, in a food commercial, who is not trying to lose weight!
This guy seems to be against hate crime legislation not because he genuinely is concerned about free speech issues, but because he wants people to go kill people he doesn't agree with. The trouble with hate crime legislation is that while many people have real bedroom furniture concerns about it, they are drowned out by idiots like this who are afraid that if there is hate crime legislation people might be discouraged from killing single mothers, homosexuals, or the homeless.
