Needed: feminist website builder extraordinaire

Hey all. I'm a daily reader and first time poster, so if this is not the appropriate place to post this, I apologize!

So here's the deal: Three years ago I started a project called And It Was Wrong after a friend of mine was sexually assaulted by a friend of hers. It's a project where people can submit their experiences of self-defined sexual assault with the hope of compiling all of these experiences together and re-defining sexual assault as what actually happens to us, rather than the stranger-in-a-dark-alley-rape image so prevalent in public consciousness.

I'll be graduating in June, so it's time to extend this project outside of my campus. I think the best way to do this is a website, except I have no idea how to make one. I'd like to hire someone within the feminist community to build this website rather than go through a generic organization. It would be a simple site, just with basic information about the project, links to more information, and a link to submit a story (the stories themselves would not actually appear online).

So if there's anyone out there in this feministing community with website-building experience who's into this idea, please contact me at rgoodman@knox.edu.  I am meeting with a Dean on Friday to request funds to pay someone to do this, and it would be really helpful if someone could quote me a ballpark price.

Thanks in advance. In community,

Rachael

Hi! This sounds like an awesome project, and I'd love to be a part of it.
I'm a graphic/web designer. I've worked freelance for about 2 years now. Just so you know, I'd also be doing this with my partner (another feminist!) to make sure all the coding is polished and well-done.

Looking at all that you would need, I'd say $2,200 would be a very reasonable flat-fee price (which for this project probably saves you money in the long run as opposed to an hourly rate).

So here's the rundown on what that would cover (since you said you don't know how a website gets made. I like my clients to know what they're getting). That would cover setting up your web space, hosting, and domain name. It would also cover all of the graphic design and branding(such as logos, color schemes, overall aesthetic and easy to use layout) and all of the programming needed to make the site run, plus a little extra so that you could later on do all of the updates and such yourself instead of having to pay someone long term to do all that for you. I'd be sure to include instructions and documentation so you would have an easier time doing that. I also use a specific web creation tool that makes it really easy to go in and change things dynamically.

If you've got any questions or need to contact me, or want my resume, here's my e-mail: cwhite@mechanimal.com
just be sure to put something about web design in the subject so I know it's not spam.

Also, here's some sites I've worked on before, just so you know that I'm legit.

If this shows up twice I'm sorry, but the comments seems to be acting wonky

If, as far as funding, the figure Kay listed is too high to fund, I could help you out with your site. I'm not, however, a web/graphic designer by trade. I basically taught myself web design to create RIOTgamer.org
The mission and project sound interesting and useful so I'd like to be a part of it. I could work for a nominal fee.

But, I would still say that, if funding permits, Kay would be the person to go to.
Feel free to email me at:
heather@riotgamer.org

And let us know when you get the site going!

Best,
Heather
