I am looking for a women's group/feminist group to join in the Dallas area. I know there must be something out there, though I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. I'm hesitant but I almost want to say a sort of sorority for those out of college (I just graduated last year, didn't do the sorority thing there and not quite sure how I feel about them) or even like a girl scouts for adults thing. I know that may sound weird but I am looking for a group of women to become life long friends with while also doing some charity work or have a common purpose as well.
I hope this made at least a little sense and if any knows of any feminist groups in this area or other things I could possibly look for/become involved in please let me know!

I live in Portland, so I have little understanding of the Dallas area, but from my experience I can say getting involved in a movement that focuses on women's issues (domestic violence, sexual assault) is a great way to start. If you have the time and energy, volunteering can be a great way to meet people and contribute to feminist causes. Also, see if there are any feminist book stores or connect with the women's resource centers on local campuses. I was involved with a sorority in college; it was the most anti-feminist, anti-woman thing I've ever been a part of. Perhaps focus on groups, organizations and places whose mission is empowering women, not just having a lot of female members. Those are just my thoughts, but I hope they help in some way. Take care and I hope feministing can be a respite for you until you find a core group of awesome women.
I am an officer in the FMLA on the UNT campus in Denton. We always welcome new members. In fact, several of our members and officers are college graduates. We discuss feminist issues and do work with our organization within the Denton community. Our meetings are mondays at 6pm in the General Academic building on the third floor (near the computer lab). I am also looking to get some people together to do some volunteer work at a local domestic abuse shelter in Denton. If you (or anyone reading this) is interested, please let me know! lindsaylu94@msn.com
