A shout out to anyone in the Pioneer Valley/5 College Area!
No, it isn't Ryan Sorba this time, but it is someone equally abhorrent, who you've probably never heard of. His name is Don Feder, and he is against hate crime legislation. Here are some choice quotes from his website:
Single mothers – Otherwise known as child abusers.
Same-sex unions – A euphemism for homosexual marriage, otherwise known as state-sanctioned sodomy.
Homeless -...At least two-thirds of the habitation-deprived (reputed victims of a heartless, capitalistic society) are chronic alcoholics, addicts, mentally ill, or a combination thereof. The majority of the homeless with children are – come on, you can guess – single mothers.
So, if you protested Ryan Sorba (or wish you had), go protest this clown at 7:00 at Cape Cod Lounge. Admission is free if you want to protest inside.
Here's more information on Feder and the event.

That mini-glossary maerits a "Whaaaaat the fuck?"
Single mothers = abusers?
Large numbers of homeless people being single mothers is supposed to say...what, exactly? Homeless people including large numbers of addicts and people with mental illness is supposed to indicate...what, again? Are we to infer this is a Michelle Malkin-esque set of stock "reasons" why the homeless deserve what they get?
Disgusting. I hope your protest gets the press and attention it needs.
So how is this an issue of hate crime legislation? Would I be less popular on this site if I told you that I'm against hate crime legislation?
This guy seems to be against hate crime legislation not because he genuinely is concerned about free speech issues, but because he wants people to go kill people he doesn't agree with. The trouble with hate crime legislation is that while many people have real concerns about it, they are drowned out by idiots like this who are afraid that if there is hate crime legislation people might be discouraged from killing single mothers, homosexuals, or the homeless.
I see. I guess I first didn't see how him being against hate crime was relevant in respect to these other opinions, even thought I object to hate crime legislation less in defense of freedom of speech than in defense of a legal system, where motives are never used to justify the court's decision.
Sorry, I wasn't clear, but it won't let me edit the post for some reason.
I didn't attend the lecture, but it was on Hate Crime legislation. His issue is how "politically correct" hate crimes are, and how liberals are oh-so-intolerant of other people's views.
I can't type today....
His issue is on how politically correct hate crime legislation is.
Heh. The typo of how "politically correct" hate crimes are made me chuckle. Anyway, thanks for clarifying.
By the way, I didn't even notice that before you pointed it out.
You know, the marriage stuff is traditional stupid, but what I really hate about this is how he says "alcoholics, addicts, mentally ill, or a combination thereof"-- hmm, one of these things is not like the others... even taking the most hardline stance that alcoholism and addiction are purely due to choice, and not due to predisposition towards addiction, mental illness IS NOT A CHARACTER FLAW. Mental illness IS NOT A CHOICE. If anything, the fact that they are mentally ill means we should support them MORE and they "deserve" to be homeless even LESS, since they, due to a medical condition they cannot control without expensive treatment even the employed cannot afford, are unable to support themselves.
It frustrates me so much when people look at mental illness as a sign of moral weakness.
I might be mistaken (I'm an Aussie) but I thought a LOT of the homeless in America were actually war veterans?
I've heard that too, but I don't know the details. Very often you see a homeless man with a sign that says he's a veteran, but who knows if its true... I wouldn't be surprised though.
According to the VA, about a third of the homeless are veterans. Other things seems to put the number around 1/4.
Yes, but don't remind God & Country types of it.
Hollllllly shit. I saw this way too late to protest (MHC student here). Sad, I could've gotten a bunch of people together, too...
True. But vagina does have a common usage referring to the whole of the female genitalia, just as penis refers to a specific part of the male genitalia but also has a common usage referring to the whole. For example, I automatically thought of the inclusion of bedroom furniture the scrotum in Velvet Acid Christ's question about drawing a penis on her or his car.
