I'm an aspiring writer and activist who just graduated from college. I am looking to spend some time traveling overseas, working with women's groups ideally, to gain experience and help out. If all goes well, I may pursue a career in International social work with a focus on women's issues. I am most interested in India, Iran, Morocco, Ireland, Spain and Egypt.
I don't know anyone personally who lives in these countries, much less who is involved in grass roots activism.
I am wondering if anyone on feministing would have any advice or tips (or know of specific organizations abroad) that would help me?
On another note, I am in the process of writing short stories and novels. One novel in particular is a historical novel that takes place in Ancient Rome. I want to write stories about strong female characters. I am looking for help in regards to which publishers or magazines tend to publish feminist writing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I will be posting here less and on my personal blog more and hope some of you will check it out. I hope to post daily but will post every other day at least. My most recent post is about Hapshetsut and "evil stepmothers".
Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't help with good publishers, but I just want to throw out a "I'm doing that too," but rather on a less dramatic scale. I'm trying to write strong, feminist romance novels with in a historical setting. I’m rather tired of reading historical novels here the heroines talk about ‘freedom’ and fights with a sword, but doesn’t really do anything to that rings true as feminist or as a woman of her own time period.
