Ok, I get it.. hipsters are "gay" .... but why are YOU so homophobic?
So I stumble across this new blog via The Frisky, and find that these "fucking hipsters" happen to look a lot like non-conventional representations of gender. AKA, these people look "gay" or andro.
Check out this pic.

Hateful? I think yes. But this is possibly an overreaction.

I actually tend to become irrationally angry about hipsters (I get it! You're oh-so quirky and ironic!), but I still appreciate the gender play. I like that they can wear what they like and act how they want without caring about fitting into strict guidelines about behavior-- in fact, stepping outside those boundaries is encouraged!
The person on the right totally looks like Christian Siriano.
The thing I don't understand, is that people who dress in a way that is acceptably mainstream have no need to apologize for it. Are you in your lululemon workout gear (sorry, Canadian athletica reference)? Cool, no one is going to give you a second glance. Business casual? Bar clothes? No one really cares.I have not once heard someone say "Look at that guy in his suit and tie. WE GET IT! You work in the business sector!"
"Hipsters" dress differently; for art, for irony, for gender-play, because of the play and creativity involved in something as normalized as personal public presentation, maybe just because they like the aesthetics... the reason is irrelevant. However, there's always this need to other and ridicule this transgression from the mainstream, which I find highly annoying.
This goes on my list with the "Stuff that White People Like" blog.
Which I read ironically, of course.
