I saw this in the paper this morning. Its so cool that they can do stuff like this. I'm glad that she could get it and that the clinic is paying for it. :-)
I think it's amazing how much utility she got out of the transplant. It saddens me her appearance prompted others to call her names and shun her. It angers me no end that the man who shot her only got **seven years** in jail!!! For inflicting that kind of hell on the woman who shared his life and probably cooked and cleaned for him for years, he should get **life**. Justice??? Since when??
The ex-husband is still alive. He's serving a seven year prison sentence for shooting her.
I was inspired by her story, too. She is very courageous.
The attempted murderer turned the gun on himself afterwards. I suspect that the only reason he got 7 years was that he'd done an even more thorough job on himself than he did on his victim.
I'm sure the fact that he was a male who shot his wife after she left him was the decisive factor in the lenient sentence - the court system tends to have a sexist bias in favor of men, especially in cases like this.
