Forever 21 Just Lost A Customer

Not actually Friday yet, but a big FFFY to the store Forever 21. Awhile back, someone posted about F21 starting a new "plus size" line, and how ridiculous we thought the whole thing was.

Well, our predictions have come true:

You know something is seriously wrong with society when an 11/12 is put under plus-size.

I'm sorry....how do we know it's an 11/12? I just see XL, 1X and 2X.

If you look at the size chart, it gives the numerical size equivalent. They also give the inches. At least the inches seem about standard for the sizes, maybe even a bit generous on the 15/16.

It says so on their size chart. (If you click on an item of clothing, a size chart option is visible on the right hand side.) This is what the chart says: 1X is 11/12, 2X is 13/14, and 3X is 16/18.

This is at least two sizes smaller than the standard 'plus' size. (Usually XL = 16/18 and 1X = 18/20.) So, basically, what they have done is created clothes in normal sizes, but labeled them as "plus".

The reason why labeling normal sizes as "plus" is wrong is because makes normal-sized teenage girls feel like they're abnormal and need special sizes just to look like their smaller friends, thus fueling the well-documented body dysmorphia anxiety experienced by young women in this country.

OK Wow I got that wrong! No more commenting before I finish coffee! lol

Ok It's this: XL = 11/12, 1X = 13/14, 2X = 15/16

The whole point is that these are sized wrong. If you go in thinking "Oh, I normally wear a 1X," and you try on one of these 1Xs, it will not fit.
Then, as most teenage girls (who are this store's target demographic, without a doubt) aren't saavy enough to say "Oh, their sizing is wrong." No, they'll think "OMG I'm fat! I hate my body!" And this is BAD.

That's generally how their original store works, too. I would grab a S shirt off the rack to try on, since I normally wear a S, and I could barely fit an arm in it, much less two arms and a large-breasted torso. It can be a mindfuck if you let yourself get sucked into it.
