Is it just me, or was the Air France plane crash covered CONSTANTLY in the news, and the Yemeni plane crash is receiving very minimal coverage? It seems to me that when a plane crash involved primarily POC Western media doesn't seem to care as much. The story of the Yemeni crash seems much more news worthy, considering the amazing survival story of a teenage girl who clung to a piece of the plane and lived. This is just another example of how our media routinely fails to adequately cover news stories related to POC.
Also, it has been rumored that this specific plane had been banned from flying in Europe because of safety hazards. So, planes that are not good enough for Europeans should be used to transport people to Africa? That's just ridiculous.

I listen to NPR, which may not be typical, but they covered both accidents, and the condition of the plane, quite a bit.
Both planes are Airbus. While the Airbus A310 (which was Yemeni) has had more fatalities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A310#Accident_and_incidents), it has also had more hijackings. The Airbus A330 has had its fair share of incidents as well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A330#Accidents_and_incidents)
However, the A310 has not been banned in Europe as far as I can tell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Airbus_A310_operators

No, not that model of plane, *that particular individual plane* had indeed been banned from EU airspace because it was in poor condition.
I totally agree. The Yemeni plane crash didn't make it onto my work elevator's list of headlines, and Air France was on there for 3 days.
Wrong. Here, in Europe, both crashes got equal coverage (as far as I can tell). More in the French media about the Brazil crash, but that is neither surprising nor scandalous.
If you believe that the Yemeni plane was not good enough for Europe, maybe you should be questioning the Yemeni airline.
I'm in Europe and the AirFrance story was much bigger. Europe is a collection of countries with vastly different news media so you might wanna generalise less.
Absolutely right. Air France was all over the news channels for over a week where I live. In contrast, I saw one brief piece about the Yemeni crash mentioning that there was one survivor...
Interesting-I knew about the Yemeni crash, but i didn't realize how disparate the covereage was. In America, it could just be the idea in the media that no one cares about countries that aren't European?
They're both sad stories, no matter what.
