This is in response to the comments on the article that 'taisa marie' posted about on the lesbian teens who were named "best couple" by their school.

I like to try and take every homophobic and discriminatory statement that comes my way and make humor of it. It really is entertaining how many unbelievable statements people make to condemn homosexuality.
Not that these comments and actions never hurt me, they hurt me deeply and disappoint me so greatly. I use humor both to show how ridiculous these insults and condemnations (word?) are to everyone, and also as a defense against the pain that is inflicted by our still discriminatory world.
I apologize for the length of this!
Anyway, I encourage anyone reading this to take these comments and show the humor and irrelevancy of the statements. There are many triggers on the comments page be warned. But I was also pleased to see that there are also posts slamming the homophobes. The was nice.
One of the comments that struck me was this:
"it's a SIN!!!!!! THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANYTHING THAT SAYS GAY, LESBIAN, OR ANYTHING SICK LIKE THAT. IT'S A CHOICE TO BE THAT WAY, UNLESS GOD GAVE YOU MORE OF ONE GENE THAN YOU SHOULD HAV'E HAD, THEN YOU CAN GET IT TAKEN CARE OF SURGICALLY."
Alright.
1) Why do people love caps lock so much?
2) Dispelling things with the words "gay, lesbian, or otherwise.." is going to make us dissappear? Aw damn..
3) Not a choice. I know thats not funny, but its important to point out. Even if it was a choice, I still would choose it!
4) The incoherency! God gave us more than one gene..? Huh? You just said its choice...now you say it could be if there is an extra gene..huh?! This person cannot even carry out a thought..
5) You can get genes removed surgically? Seriously? Alright! Im going to go get my short person gene removed so ill finally be tall. Yess!
It is so disappointing the so many people still share these views and hatred. Yet people are also standing up against such hate. Hopefully we will see great changes in the years to come.

I wonder how she thinks it can be "fixed"? Is there a doctor for GAY, LESBIAN, AND OTHERWISE!!!!!11! ? How does this work in her mind? Like liposuction? "Doctor, we have another one who wants the gay choice sucked out of him!" Or is it an implant like Norplant? "This will gently release inhibitors that will go and eat the lesbian and otherwise out of you."
Some people are just so... ug.

XD Yeah seriously. I have encountered so many people like this before. Impossible to reason with, but they make good stories later. I had someone once tell me that I had a mental disorder. That was fun :) Liposuction..thats priceless XD

Nah, you just missed it in that bizarre jumble of words. I teach English to beginning learners of English, so I'm more accustomed to deciphering writing on that guy's level.

You just can't take all the comments on any popular site seriously. The wide range of commentators assures stupidity and the anonymity of it guarantees that many people will be on their worst behavior. For all the discussion about the Feministing comment threads, they are far more civil and generally much more intellectual than those of any major news site. Just as an example, the antiwar movement in 2003 was extremely disciplined and patriotic, and full of love and support for the soldiers, but if you went online you'd read wackos hoping for their deaths. If you try to debate or educate every nutcase on the internet you'll waste your life and lose your soul.
Much better to just stand up for what you believe in, leave them alone to argue, and seek your own entertainment :) Im at a point where I can look at stupidity like that and laugh, so I take advantage of it. For the closeted girl I used to be who really couldnt handle hearing those things.

I laugh because these people are on the wrong side of history. They're already making a mockery of themselves and it'll only get worse for them with time.
Yes, hopefully in the years to come they will become known as the hateful protesters of a civil rights movement, just like hatefilled people before them. And hopefully they will learn.
