Plus-Size Model Lizzie Miller in Glamour

Lizzie Miller is a 20 year old plus size model standing 5'11", weighing in at 180 pounds, and wearing a size 12-14. Miller is (evidently) on page 194 of the latest issue of Glamour magazine and her semi-nude photos have caused a stir recently with the exhibition of her belly and stretch-marked hips. Another photo, unlike the one above, features Miller in profile with a full view of her belly.

This woman is plus-size??

I was thinking the same thing. I wear size 12 but I don't find that in the "plus-size" section.

I wish I had her belly!

Okay, I can't watch the video because I'm at work but...are the pictures not airbrushed at all? Because her skin is phenominal! I wish I had skin like that! She looks breathtaking (and I don't just mean her skin).

Also, why exactly are the pics causing a stir? What kind of stir? People are outraged that they show her belly or something?

Yea, I agree - since when is this plus-sized?

OMG TUMMY!!! I guess for models she probably is plus sized, but she's the "average American woman" in terms of size, according to the person in the video. Only thing - she's still a model -gorgeous hair, make up, teeth etc. Does that really differ from the beauty standard that much?

Perhaps being 5'11" and broad shouldered stretches her proportions. She is significantly above the 95th percentile for height for a 20 year old female. If you scaled her down 10% in 3D, she'd be 5'4" and 131 lbs. Kind of small. With those same proportions, she would probably be a smaller size like an 8.

My wife is 5'9" with long legs, and in Japan that basically meant the only women I ever met as tall or taller than my wife were athletes. Despite being slim, it was very difficult to find her size in clothing (US size 6 - Japan size 13) and almost impossible for shoes (US size 9 - Japan 24.5 cm). Traditional Japanese clothing like kimono were not made in her size, so she alone studied tea ceremony in jeans. She basically wears casual clothing and sneakers, even in the US.

Yay for more body types.
Boo to having to show women naked for them to be worth looking at.

I hate how they call models in anything above a size 8 "plus size". It's ridiculous.

It's a great step up from showing only women 5'11 in size 2s, but I don't think it's going far to reflect a more inclusive image of women. She's still conforming more closely to our current set of body standards than anything else. Someone wearing a size 12/14 while standing around 5'11 usually looks quite slender - which she does.

I need to show these people what a belly really looks like.

LMAO. I know, I've got these awesome belly-enhancing lounge pants.

SERIOUSLY 12-14 is plus sized? Ughh! Why not "ALMOST NORMAL" sized??

Also, the message now being sent is that it's okay to have a little tummy if you're white, blonde, and very stereotypically "beautiful." Otherwise, watch out!

Also, I hate when she "justifies" being proud of her body by saying how she works out and lives a healthy lifestyle.

Oh jeez, I think this is hitting me even harder than normal because of the PETA shenanigans of late.

Sadly, I recently learned that 12-14 is plus sized when I went shopping. J Crew only carries up to a size 10 in stores, and Ann Taylor and Banana Republic rarely have 14s or 16s anymore. I know, I need new stores to shop at but in the meantime it's annoying and depressing as hell.

She doesn't look remotely plus sized. Is she really tall?

[0+] Author Profile Page MASHBengal said:

I'm glad I'm not the only one going "Wait, plus sized?". I always thought plus sizes meant 16+ if not starting higher.

Am I correct in guessing that you're not thin or normal anymore unless you look like a skeleton?

Her figure is normal if you ask me. I'm a size 2 and I don't even have a flat tummy myself. This woman still looks pretty small to me and if she stood up I bet that belly would look smaller as well.

What a sad society where we believe that anything that isn't flat with a six pack is plus size.

Let's get some more of this shit, please.

And I don't see any stretch marks in that one pic you posted. The fucking truth is, all the "skinny" ladies have stretch marks too. Because they're fucking normal and happen all the time. It's just that airbrushing would have everyone, including men, believe that they shouldn't exist.

I buy my jeans at Lane Bryant, and the couple brand models that the company has are certainly voluptuous and big-chested, but don't seem especially "plus-size" to me, either.

I'm 5'3" and 135, wearing an 9-11 depending on brand. I have found that at work, I'm considered to be a bit large since most of the women I work with are between 3 - 7. So that would be how she is considered a plus size model, because that's what we're teaching people to think.

I think she has a very pretty figure, but then she sort of reminds me and I'm narcissistic enough to find myself pretty darn sexy.

I'm a size 6 USA, which is a size 10 in my own country (British sizes are 4 numbers higher than american, USA 0 is 4 in the UK and so on). My stomach looks like that woman's does. If I lost weight, I'd still have a tummy like that, because that's the way nature made most women! Being thin doesn't seem to change a lady's stomach. I wish the world would stop pretending you can diet your way into that flat belly state and admit it's about genetics.

I do wish the media would stop with the patronising 'oh, it's so nice to see a plus sized model' thing, though. Let's just admit that women's magazines cause more harm than they cure.

I'm going to ditto almost everyone on the, "...that's plus-sized?!?!" comments.

She's really not any bigger than average, the fact that she's labeled "plus-size" just shows how effed up the modeling industry is and how arbitrary clothing sizes are in the first place.

I hate how companies throw in a so-called "bigger model" every now and again to pretend like they're making a difference in the fashion industry...

like others have said: she's not even remotely plus sized... Move along folks. Nothing to see.

Yes, it is irritating that a normal sized woman is being called plus sized. However, it was pointed out in the interview that she is the size of the average American woman (though actually probably looks thinner, because of being so tall). I read that issue of Glamour (maybe I will eventually get to the point I can kick my beauty magazine habit but I'm not there yet). I did notice the picture right away, (the one in the video with her stomach pooching out a bit) and it stood out to me because most beauty mags show models with flat sucked in stomachs or if they show a normal looking woman she is a "before" picture or in an article about how to change your body. This photo showed a proud but not by the beauty industries standards "perfect" looking woman. I do think it is a step in the right direction (hopefully to be followed by more steps but I wont hold my breath). I did feel good when I saw the picture. Yes, there is a need for magazines to show true plus sized women, but there is also a need for them to show women who are of an average size and don't have every bit of fat airbrushed away and I think Glamour did something good for once by publishing this photo. (Though the magazine deserves no award because most of the images it publishes are nothing like this).
