I can't believe I read this.

Yah. I'm talking about the 'New York Times Bestseller' Marilyn Manson's Long Road Out of Hell

Just to give a quick pretext, I am also reading other biographies such as Marie-Therese Bourbon and Marie Antoinette. I found this little piece of work, and was troubled. I HATE, I mean HATE, this guy. But, I wanted to have a real reason other then reading that he cheated on the beautiful (yet still coco) Dita Von Teese. I wanted to know, what is the real guy behind the silly goth kid make-up?

Here's my review.

In the beginning, as most popular books, it had potential. He, through a ghost author (which at times switches between the real brian warner's comments and the author which is weird), discusses the very very very disturbing upbringing that I'm not entirely convinced is true but interesting anyways. He had a sexually deviant grandfather who jerked off to beastiality porno and accidentally caught him in the basement in action. It seemed to come out of some Asia Argento movie (ironically a good friend of his) and personally I believe it was exaggerated because WHAT PARENTS WOULD LET A KID STAY AT A PERSON'S HOUSE LIKE THAT? Ok, a lot, but still. Weird. Very expected. So he begins to transform his own deviant personality into basically a typical bragging, egotistical, demented, sex addict at the age of 13.

Every girl he talks about is either "a fat, pimple faced slut" or a "manipulative whore". Obvious sexism and apparently no positive memories of a father giving him advice, come to think, his parent's seemed no existent which lead me to think he wrote the book just to exploit his image as an annoying tacky goth. By the way, the best part comes when he casually admits he physically abused his mother with a piece of glass. Also, he mentally abuses his girlfriends just for his own selfish goals and could care less that his autobiography less appealing. But a sentence got my attention for a minute when he said "I was trying to make a point about patriarchy in society" when it ended with ", of course not that I was turned on by a scantily clad woman on a leash". Sigh. Towards the end, it just summarizes my exact judgements on him--a worthless scumbag who got into show business to fuck girls he couldn't when he wasn't a rock star.

It left me with the massive question, WHY Dita Von Teese, WHY?

Have any of you read this? Don't bother if you havent... read Marie Therese's biography, it's very cool.

Manson's genius was for self-promotion, but thankfully it was a very short-lived genius. Those who thought of him as some kind of figure for their rebellious, angry teenage years I never could quite understand.

Heh, my cousin (who is ten years older than me; I'm twenty) has/had that book. I remember when I was eight or nine I picked it up out of curiosity (at that point I knew of Manson and how "weird" he was/is) and just skimmed through it. None of it really held my attention, but I still recall one snippet where he was describing a young woman, probably a groupie, shedding her clothes down to her boots just because he asked her to and, as young as I was, it still gave me a creepy feeling.
