I Heart The Onion
After seeing so many mainstream news organizations completely (or almost completely) ignore the fact that Roman Polanski raped a child, I was happy to see The Onion take it on this morning.
I'd say they did a good job of getting back to the issue at hand.

That was great. I just can't believe the sheer numbers of people who think that his cinematic accomplishments and tragic family past somehow give him cart blanche to rape a child. It's truly mind-staggering.
Rape jokes are obviously very tricky (and some think that they can never be executed well). But I think this is an example of one very well done. I too heart The Onion.
Yeah, they're not laughing at the rape or the rape victims, as with most jokes. They're laughing at the stupidity of rape culture. I think that's what makes the difference for me.
Oh and bonus points! I almost forgot to mention that The Onion actually called the crime "rape!"
True, though they did call it a "sex charge" in the title -- unfortunately like so many real news organizations that are using that phrase or saying that he was convicted of "having sex" with a 13-year old girl. Um, I believe there's a way to say that in just one word that is much more accurate...
Haha, that's actually so funny. And also kind of sad, because these are the kind of arguments actually being made in Polanski's defense.
For fuck's sake, how is this even a fucking controversy? I love Rosemary's Baby, too, but that doesn't excuse what Polanski did. I don't care how talented he is, HE RAPED A CHILD. THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES FOR THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOR. THE END.
