Just a quick post here on something that's been bothering me.
I don't know how many of you have been following this "witch doctor" business but it's more than obnoxious. On CNN's ticker they posted this article: "Obama as witch doctor: racist or satirical?"(http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/09/17/obama-as-witch-doctor-racist-or-satirical/) Are they kidding me? How on earth anyone could see the images of Obama photoshopped as a "witch doctor" and NOT think it's racist is beyond me.
But then they go on to say:
"Posters portraying President Obama as a witch doctor may be racist, organizers of Tea Party protests say, but they reflect anger about where he is leading the country."
Oh, so it's okay to use racist imagery as long as it's just because you're really really upset. Got it.

This shit's been bothering me a lot lately. I don't care if people don't like Obama or disagree with his policies or whatever...but this is just ridiculous. I saw some incredibly classy and tasteful (by that I mean idiotic and offensive) signs on TV the other night...
"There's an African in the zoo and a LYIN' African in the White House"
"We came unarmed (This time)"
"Oppressive Bloodsucking Arrogant Muslim Alien"
Yeah it's totally okay to be a racist fuckhead just because you're pissed off. Wow I love people.
I agree with you. These idiots know nothing about political protests and they clearly don't understand the healtcare public option issue. They are only "protesting" because they hate that Obama is mixed with Muslim/African heritage and they are racist.
This is not about politics. It's their excuse to openly villify a Black/Mixed man under the illusion of "political protests."
Oh, they understand the public option.
And they oppose it - because they don't want their tax dollars paying for health care for Black people, because they are racists.

Don't forget "Bury Obamacare with Kennedy"
My favorite is "Somewhere in Kenya a village is missing its teleprompter!" Because politicians use teleprompters and black people are from Africa.
The only way past it is through it, but I have to applaud these people for managing to kill the thrill of having elected a black president in less than a year.
And the king of the teabags wrote on his blog that Obama is an Indonesian Muslim Welfare Thug, but meant that as a policy criticism not a racial thing.
"Somewhere in Kenya a village is missing its teleprompter!"
HAHAHA oh my goodness.
"And the king of the teabags wrote on his blog that Obama is an Indonesian Muslim Welfare Thug, but meant that as a policy criticism not a racial thing."
Exactly. Cause when I criticize healthcare policy, it's important to also bring up the fact that I'm still not convinced our prez isn't trying to take over the country with his evil Muslim mind tricks!
Obviously a lot of the people there are racist to at least some degree. Even if that witch doctor example wasn't explicitly meant to be racist it belies some unconscious racist tendencies in the person who made the poster. I doubt people would so quickly associate a white president with a witch doctor if they proposed some health care reform.
Near my area, the protesters said "First BITCH" about Michelle Obama. I was horrified but not surprised. This is the kind of mindset these people have, so I dont pay attention to them.
I'm not sure where the line is between objective journalism and sounding batshit crazy.
Seriously, maybe I should bring it up in class today.
the whole thing is to make obama illegitimate. But i also wonder if the press is giving it too much coverage. how widespread is this racial animosity
