I've become obsessed with Al Jazeera English for a lot of world news that simply does not get reported in North America. On their YouTube channel, I came across an interesting piece from their show "Witness", that I wanted to share with people.
Called "Sari Stories", it's about a community project in rural India, where a group of women are given video cameras and go about filming day to day life.
They concentrate on the issue of child marriage, since it seems that is something all the women in the program have in common.
I've embedded Part 1, if you have any trouble viewing the second part, click here.

Amazing and heartbreaking. And what a brilliant idea using a simple video camera in their communities to amplify voices.
Thank you for sharing this!
I do a lot of that station as well, good story.
That was awesome.
When the people in question talk about issues that affect them instead of an outsider, you get such an enriching picture of the issue.
Wow. Simply wow. The oppression they face is so systematic that its hard to believe they can smile like they do.
Look at that sh*t-eating grin that husband has at 9:53. I guarantee you 5 billion rupees he is NOT cooperative with his wife when she wants to go out and film.
The key to his cooperation is the $5 instead of 40 cents per day that she is now bringing home. $5 buys a lot more beer, cigarettes and gold watches.
