Sometimes, as a woman in charge of feeding a man, you want him to eat healthy soups. To accomplish this you must trick or force him into eating the healthy soup. He would obviously never make this choice on his own.
Class dismissed! You may adjourn to the cafeteria to eat your gender appropriate soups!

Ha! Gendered soups lol. They might as well put "manly" and "female" sections in the stores. Ridiculous and unimaginative advertising. Wouldn't you want both genders to buy your product? Not that I would particularly buy their product because I'm not used to canned American soups (was raised on different cuisine).
I brought this up to my boyfriend and male housemates the other day! Like, using the exact same words that you did. Food is often gendered in advertising, think yogurt vs beer, but in this case it's the same exact food and they just use different words to describe it. It's kinda crazy if you ask me.
How long would a national food company stay in business by refusing to acknowledge that different ads are effective with different demographics?
I wonder where we would be as a society if we never asked ourselves what advertising reveals about our culture or what role advertising plays in shaping it?
Is anyone calling for an end to studying advertising?
No, and no one is calling for an end to targeted demographic marketing either.
I love Campbell's chunky soups...I guess I'm not a real woman :(
