Kleenex Says "Get Mommed"
Have you seen this "Get Mommed" campaign by Kleenex?
You can try out a virtual mom to help you pick out tisuies... what? Yeah, in my opinion this is sexist advertising at it's worst.
Here is one of the commercials:
Blech.

Up until the end, I was going to say it was more making fun of stereotypes than playing into them. But it jumps the shark at the "Find your perfect mom" wrap-up. Suddenly, rather than satirizing the idea that moms all fall into one of x number of homogenized, one-dimensional stereotypes, it becomes the point of commercial that they do, and that moms are just "Moms."
can i just note an additional horrifying bit of this commercial:
at the end Ana Maria says, "I just like to make my salsa."
apparently, gender stereotypes were not enough for them.
To be honest, the racist undertones bother me more than the sexist ones. Poor Anna Maria just wants to make her salsa.
Agreed. The whole ad campaign irks me.
Are you people SERIOUS??? What's the problem? I love that this commercial celebrates all kinds of moms; we all have our own special qualities. At the same time, it also kind of makes a little poke at those "annoying things" moms do. "Get Mommed" is conveying nothing more than the important role moms play--how everyone needs to be nurtured and moms are the best at it. This commercial is adorable and makes me proud to be a mom! Another note, how is this sexist? I can't remember my dad ever being much of a nurturer. Not that that's always the case, but 9 times out of ten it is. It's just a fact--it's natural, like it or not.
