What Men Want

A few weeks ago I was in a 7-11 when I picked up a Cosmo. And I haven't been able to get something I read in it out of my mind. The page I turned to held an extensive quiz of men of all ages. Some questions were completely benign, some were silly. Only one was really unequivocally scary. (Only 35% of men said they'd stop if they were having sex with a drunk woman and she seemed like she was out of it or didn't know what was going on. Ugh.) But there was one that caught my attention because I simply didn't know what to make of the results.

When asked what they like a woman to taste like when they kiss her, men over 35 mostly said "mint" and men under 35 mostly said "alcohol." There is a part of me that attributes this to nothing but sense memory. Many younger men go to college and meet people at parties or at bars, which means often they are drinking. Older men are more likely to be married or committed, and probably enjoy knowing their spouse took the time to get minty fresh for them.

But I'm not sure. I worry that young men like a woman to taste like alcohol because it might mean her defenses are down. Maybe it means she's likely to "consent" to more action than she normally would. Maybe the fact that she drinks means she is not a "good girl," and as we all know- "bad girls" are women who will put out.

Really I have no idea. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this. Is that result disturbing? Is it just that young men like going out drinking and think alcohol tastes good? I can't decide, so I thought it a worthy question to pose.

I find that interesting.

Mint- clean, refreshing.
Alcohol- intoxication.

It's like a subtle virgin/whore message.

What is it with this chick? She have beer-flavored nipples?

I would be curious to know what the other options were.
In any case, I would not discount the possibility of the smart-ass answer being picked.
I mean really, alcohol?
How generic is that? If it said "Single Malt Scotch," maybe it would make sense.
And, if "Single Malt Scotch" were an option, I would not be the least bit surprised if that got a huge response for no other reason than it is a smart-ass response.

I think the smart-ass response is right...

I don't think most dudes would take a survey from cosmo seriously.

And dude, if the single malt was Cragganmore I would vote for that.

On that note, let's remember where this survey was posted: Cosmo. The results are immediately questionable unless they posted exactly how they got their data; unless Cosmo randomly selected these men from the general population, and accounted for the population demographic etc, the survey is most likely biased. Especially if it was a volunteer survey.

Point being, there's a good chance that many of these subjects may have come from the same group of people (demographic, social interests, whatever), which may or may not include the decent guys out there.

Also, tasting of alcohol doesn't mean the girl has to be drunk; my ex thought it was really sexy when I tasted like wine, and was satisfied if I'd only had one sip. Just a thought.

Taking Cosmo seriously in regard to gender is like taking Sarah Palin seriously in regard to politics.

The end.

As for the answer: subtle taste of lime, Corona and salt.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I find the smell of alcohol on certain people really endearing. I can't tell you what any of my boyfriends smelled like except two. One almost always smelled like cigarette packages, cold air and whiskey. Another smelled like hand soap and rum. I really liked both of those smells on both of them.

Admittedly, their reasons may be more insidious than mine.

I like when men taste like beer! And I don't want to sound creepy, but it's cute when my boyfriend is tipsy or drunk. Not because I want to take advantage of him, but just because I think it's cute when tall hairy men act silly. I know that a woman thinking it's cute when a man has been drinking has different meanings than a man liking drunk women because of the power difference, and it IS Cosmo, so I get the interpretation that younger men like women who are "looser." But it definitely depends on the guy. I dunno, my boyfriend also thinks I'm completely adorable when I'm smashed, again, not because it's easier to fuck me but because I'm silly.

Yeah like I said, I wasn't really sure if there was anything to this or not. I'm still not totally convinced that there isn't, but it sounds like most people think it was benign. Good to know!
