Women have no respite from voyeurs in Canada
This case is really making my blood boil.
The Crown dropped all charges against a Peeping Tom named James Cedar, who *confessed* to police *after* being caught on camera. As a result, the nightmare for the three women he was peeping at while masturbating has gone from bad to worse.
And there's no escape.
Opposition leaders are supposed to grill the government on why charges were dropped.
The judge and prosecutor responsible should *not* be on the bench.
If the government doesn't do something it should never get reelected.

any news on why the case was dropped
That's part of why my blood is boiling. The Tom's peeping was deemed "age-appropriate" because he's about the same age as the girls whose privacy he is violating. Wtf??????? Other rumours have it that the kid doing the peeping has a well-connected family. This *has* to end.
This is absolutly terrifying! To think that we can't even feel safe in our own homes!
There was likely no judge responsible for this case if the Crown prosecutor dropped the charges. Likely the charges were dropped because Cedar's actions did not meet the all the elements of "criminal harassment" under the Canada Criminal Code. We also don't have a law against voyeurism anymore. There is, however, a law against lurking on private property at night. My guess, and it's just a guess because I haven't been able to do any more research about this case, is that the accused got a lawyer who figured out that the Crown's case wasn't going to hold up in Court (despite what the facts look like on the surface). Prosecutors can't just do whatever they want because there has been wrongdoing. They must go by the specifications of the law, which is overall a very good thing. It's possible that the Marshall's could bring a successful civil case against Cedar, and that he could still be criminally charged under the appropriate statute. So while I agree that what he has done is reprehensible, it is still important to ensure that each and every person's right to due process is maintained.
