I Wrote To My Representative & This Is What He Had To Say:

Earlier this month, I wrote to my Representative — Republican Tom Graves from the 9th district in Georgia. I wrote about the importance of Planned Parenthood funding and pro-choice decisions. He wrote me back letting me know that he is proud to have banned Planned Parenthood funding through his seat in the House and that he will “always vote to protect the unborn.” Even though I am a constituent, he will not vote to protect me, my body, or my choices. Naturally, I’m horrified, but in this social climate — it’s not surprising.

Here is his letter:

Dear Ms. Niemiec Charlsie,

Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts about Planned Parenthood funding and the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. It is good to hear from you, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

As you many know, H.R. 217 was introduced by Rep. Mike Pence on January 7, 2011. This legislation amends the Public Health Service Act by prohibiting the Secretary of Health and Human Service (HHS) from allocating taxpayer dollars to fund organizations that perform abortions. you will be pleased to know that I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of this bill. H.R. 217 was referred to the House Committee on Enrgy and Commerce, of which I am not a Member, and at this time, no hearings have been held concerning this legislation.

I believe that federal and state governments were established to protect all lives — yours, mind, and those of the unborn. Please be assured, should this or any other abortion related issue come before me in the full House, I will always vote to protect the unborn.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this important matter. Your input helps me to better serve you in the u.S. House of Representatives. If i can be of any further service, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Tom Graves
