Hey everybody,
This is my first post. Scary.
Well, I was just reading on the site x17online.com (yes, I am one of the many who love celebrity voyeurism) that Victoria Jackson, an ex SNL comedian, had quite a heated response to the show Glee’s kiss between two male characters. I didn’t see anything on this site about it so I thought I’d go ahead and add this.
When asked her opinion on the scene, she’s quoted as saying:
“Well, it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is what the Bible says. And I’m really concerned about our country because immorality is, well, let’s see: secular humanism rules the airwaves, and it’s stealing the innocence away from this whole generation of children. My daughter is a teenager and I cant find any show that she can watch.”
And let’s not omit:
“Did you see “Glee” this week? Sickening! And, besides shoving the gay thing down our throats, they made a mockery of Christians – again! I wonder what their agenda is? Hey, producers of “Glee” – what’s your agenda? One-way tolerance?”
Now, I’ve never actually seen Glee, so I don’t know a whole lot about it, but as I understand it it’s a show that has no religious affiliation. I may be wrong about that. So to say that Glee is making “…a mockery of Christians-again!” is a bit dramatic and presumptuous. I guess, the whole point of the media is to attack Christianity as often as they can and the best way to do that is to have two boys kiss on national television. Gasp! Because the gays hate Christians and all. Gag. I call bullshit. I’m so tired of uber narrow minded, conservative, homophobes acting like their whole existence is threatened because other than heterosexuality is represented. Underrepresented, but represented.
Also, to claim that, “secular humanism rules the airwaves, and it’s stealing the innocence away from this whole generation of children” is ridiculous because what is so wrong with secular humanism, firstly? Secondly, in this context she’s commenting on homosexuality in the media and what exactly is so fucking wrong with two guys kissing as opposed to a man and a woman kissing? Not a damn thing. Human sexuality is diverse and complex and not shameful. And definitely not destroying anyone’s innocence.
I find it laughable that in the same breath she says that the Glee kiss is “sickening” and then goes on to accuse the producers of the show of “One-way tolerance” because in Victoria Jackson’s alternate reality she’s tolerant, I suppose.
Anyway, what do you folks think about this?

I saw this episode of Glee, and I don’t understand how such a sweet, romantic moment could be sickening to someone. I also don’t know what she thinks was a mockery of Christians. Kathy Griffin guest starred in that episode as a “former Tea Party candidate” who says “I’m not a witch.” That was a clear reference to Christine O’Donnell. So it made a mockery of the Tea Party, which Victoria Jackson is a part of.
I know!!!! I found out on Wikipedia!!!!!!!! Then again Victoria Jackson seemed to be humble pie when it came to the more savory veterns of SNL. I remember when she was on the “Romeo” on Nickelodeon a decade ago, seemed contrived and plus I have a jewel from Nickelodeon that made me laugh and I will use it as a take that to her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBAI3R9LMvM
Hahaha! Awesome link!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
What do I think of this? I think she’s a right-wing homophobe.
True that and not funny
I mean that Victoria Jackson isn’t funny
Glee has been building up the gay character (Curt) from his coming out to his Dad to him switching schools because he was being bullied. I have no clue where she gets that the show shoves homosexuality down our throats. The storyline about a high school glee club is overrun by details about 6-7 stereotypically heterosexual couples. The show seemed to almost move him away and write him off.
I say go Glee for mixing it up a little and for giving gay teen viewers a plot line they can actually relate to!
