Ain’t that the truth?! It seems quite impossible to deny the fact that the issue of abortion or contraception would be entirely different if men could become pregnant. I really truly believe abortion would not even be an issue in any election if it was not tied to women’s rights. It seems to be the same old “women and their sexuality are not respected or allowed” type rhetoric yet one must wonder why this bullshit is still so accepted.
As I started to ponder all the sadness in my life I couldn’t help myself from thinking about Rush Limbaugh (yes, he truly saddens my life) and his blatant sexism. As I thought about the issue of abortion I couldn’t help thinking about Rush Limbaugh and his idiotic remark about Sandra Fluke and naming her a “slut” because of her fight to have insurance cover contraception despite of religious views of any employer. A very brave, amazing, astounding act in my opinion but hey, what does a silly feminist know about social justice and human rights? Apparently to Rush Limbaugh it was equivalent to Fluke asking for payment after having sex…that is one sharp tool right? But all sarcasm aside (well justified sarcasm) it still pisses me off and to this day I have haunting nightmares of this man still living on this planet. But more nightmares come when I know that he has listeners (and not just ones who listen to get a laugh at his foolish comments) true listeners who actually agree with him! Eerie isn’t it?
It becomes even more troubling for me when I think about the clear sex differences attached to one’s sexuality. Hello Viagra! Viagra is covered by many, many health insurance companies, Viagra is not even contraception, it gives men the ability to have sex when they no longer can. Yet a form of contraception should not be covered by insurance companies? Yup, that makes perfect sense. Side note: Rush Limbaugh was caught with Viagra at an airport. Does that mean the taxpayers pay him to have sex? According to his logic it does…except he’s a man and that makes everything a-ok! NOT.
Oh the double standard, it physically hurts! It is 2012 and it still astonishes me how much more we have to overcome not only women but all people. If only everyone’s sexuality had the same respect and priority, if only women’s sexuality wasn’t so feared and answered by injustice. If only we could all team up against it…we can! Well the one thing I do know is Rush Limbaugh will not win this (I would move to outer space) we can all combat against it. We can defy sexism, double standards and of course Rush Limbaugh!
On the sexual double standard
