Women take the day

So Ladies, I guess we cleaned house last night–and the senate, plus we kept the White House in very good order.  That’s right, we won–in more ways than one.

1.  A record number of women have been elected to Congress.  Ms. McCaskill, Ms. Warren, Ms. Baldwin, and all the others, we applaud you.  You are shining examples for every woman, every young girl, every person in this nation.

2.  Those who tried to marginalize, insult and defeat us were shown the door.  Todd Akin learned that voters have viable biological defenses that ‘shut down’ those who have no understanding of women’s bodies–or, for that matter, of their minds, hearts and souls.  Now he can go find a legitimate job.  Richard Mourdock, who said that rape pregnancy is a gift from God, was also soundly defeated–just as God intended!  Or I’m pretty sure She’s up there laughing, somewhere.

3.  Barack Obama is still the president.  Joe Biden is still the vice president.  Michelle Obama is still first lady.  Hillary Clinton is still secretary of state.  I am deeply relieved that the work Barack Obama has done from the inception of his presidency (from the rescension of the Global Gag Rule to the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Act to the appointment of two amazing women to the Supreme Court) will thrive and continue.

We did it.  We made it.  The day is ours.
