While I do think that sex workers need to be recognized as whole human beings and that their choices need to be destigmatized, to say that the main reason women don't participate in sex work is the media bias, or fear of social ostracization, is to emphasize the problems that upper-middle class, predominantly white sex workers face.
So...not only am I a new feminist, but a new blogger as well. I run a youth advocacy group call Teen Health Now that works on comprehensive sex education issues in the state of North Carolina. One of my youth wrote a fabulous blog post on Amplify Your Voice, a website for youth advocates run by Advocates for Youth.
